how do you take off silk wrap nails???

I've had a couple of silk wraps on for more than 3 weeks and I can't get them off. The manicurist told me to "just use some acetone" and I have been soaking them for days and nothing seems to be happening!!!

Can anyone help me out with this. I never wear fake nails, but a couple of my nails broke right before my wedding so in desperation I got 3 silk wraps. Now they just look funny!

just soak your nails in nail polish remover... it won't come off as easily as nail polish, but it loosens up the glue and powder... it will work.

Soak them, then when the edges come loose you need to pop them off. Beware your nails will be soft/weak for a while as they recover.

this may sound weird but it helps. Boil some water & but the acetone in a bowl then but hot water in another bowl that is bigger than the bowl with the acetone. Put the bowl with acetone in the hot water & soak. It has been found that warmer acetone makes it work better--there are places that have a soak which takes only 15 to take off the silk wraps & it is because it is heated.

EXACTLY!!! Only way it works for me!!! Also, get a think nail file and file the top layer off after about 5 minutes and it won't take as long to get the rest off...

Re: how do you take off silk wrap nails???

I had gel nails (permanent french) done three weeks ago too and can't get them off. I can't even soak them off. I had to get them clipped down and filed but the layers of gel are still on my nails. Never again...

Yes it's less work for you, but it hurts like a b*tch at times! At least that's how I felt!

I will have to try the warm soak thing!!

I just patiently sat at home and soaked them in pure acetone (like $1 for a bottle) dont' bother with the stuff they sell "to take off fake nails".

I have had them professionally taken off and they soak, and file them away, and your own nail too.

But no matter what, depending on how long the wraps were on for, your nail will be weak. I am still growing out mine,,,,,since Sept.

I agree with you a 100% on this one. I am trying to grow out my nails since Sept. as well because they are so brittle and weak from the silk wrap.

Re: how do you take off silk wrap nails???

Read what I wrote in "spinoff to silk wrap question" to help your nails. But def. soak them in pure acetone and put a bowl of hot water underneath the bowl with the acetone to make it hot. It works much better. Also, get an orangewood stick and scrape off the wrap while your fingers are in the acetone. Then file and buff LIGHTLY. You don't want to take off too much of the nailplate. Then use a lotion or oil to moisturize the cuticle are and hands as they will be very dry. Need to soak for about 15-20 minutes. (put a towel over your hands first for like 1 minutes then scrape. You don't want to breathe in too much of the fumes!) Def. read what I wrote on the other thread. This stuff works like a champ and I posted a pic of my nails after I have been using the stuff for about 3 weeks.

Re: how do you take off silk wrap nails???

I went to my nail salon and soaked to get them off. I had them on for about 6 weeks and took them off after the wedding. It will take a few months for your nails to get back to normal. Mine are very weak, look like crap and have ridges....oh well, the things we did for our wedding!!
