New Stamps from the Post Office will not be out for July 1

I was just at the post office to buy the stamps for the return envelopes and was told the new stamps for July 1st wont be out anytime soon!! He said the way the post office works, we will be lucky if they are out by Aug 1. He couldnt guarantee that but he said they really dont believe they will be in. So, for us brides who will need the new ones, we can either get the "love" stamp and then add a cheesy 2cent stamp or have them rubber stamp them. Either way is not lovely but what can we do? I am going to wait until the very last minute to see if they come in with them. Unfortunatly my last minute is Jully 15th so I doubt they will be in. A minor complication for us and nothing to really get concerned about but....it is a bit upsetting...

Mine go out Aug 1 - I'm using two 34 cent stamps ...

It's an additional 11 cents per invite, which is less than $10.00 to us. I really don't like the idea of the two one cent stamps, so if the new ones aren't out, I'm just gonna eat the money! It's a waste, but makes me feel better. :)

Thats a great idea...that costs us an extra $20.. maybe they have some stamps that are nice for less...so we still go over some but not as much as 11 cents. Great idea!!! I am so much happier now!! Again I know this is so silly but...Thank you!!

Got my invites out under the wire!!

Over 100 went yesterday, and the final few went out today. I`m so relieved I was able to stick to my deadline. With all that was going on the past couple of weeks I didn`t think I`d be able to do it .. but a few near-all nighters did the trick! I know the invites are going early for a late September wedding, but I didn`t want to worry about the stamp issue and I didn`t want the post office getting me with their latest rate hike. Enough is enough already! P.S. - The wonderful people at the Post Office had no problem with the hand canceling of the invites .. and no they didn`t let me do it .. for those who were wondering since it had been mentioned here that such a thing was "illegal."

I didnt realize you were a Sept bride also. Ours is Sept 30th and I was afraid of mailing them out too early to beat the price change. If I had known I wasnt the only one, I would have sent them out now too :). I figured it was too early and decided to wait because of "ettiquete" (spelling?). Oh well :) What is .02cents more? (besides an ugly envelope hehe)

I guess I should have sent mine out too

We are getting married on September 23 and I haven't even started addressing them yet!! As I mentioned in a few previous postings June has been my month from he**. I am so glad it is over. At about 2:15 this afternoon I finally took the last walk down the three flights of stairs from my apartment and am now officially residing with my FH!!! Yeah. A couple of days to settle in and then have to get the invites going. I had one weighed the other day and I too need additional postage. I guess it will be 2 $.34 cent stamps for me too. Oh well. Too tired today to care.

I was concerned about the timing issue as well, thinking it might be too early. I even posted my concern here. But, I was originally planning to send them just after July 4th ... until I heard about the rate change. Then I agonized over going one week earlier, and to be honest .. I don`t think it`s a big deal. I just look at it this way .. it just gives people a little more notice if they need to make special arrangements. Plus, I think most people will know whether they want to attend or not, and the week or two difference won`t matter. As for the 2 cents thing .. yeah, it`s only 2 cents per envelope, but I`m really tired of the Post Office raising rates. Funny thing is, when I questioned the post office (a few times) over whether the stamps would be ready in early July ... I would get a sarcastic laugh and would be told something like, "the way things work around here .. don`t count on it." And I even had one lady tell me, "keep the money in your pocket." I guess I just don`t like paying for the Post Office`s failure to handle their finances. Plus, I had the stamps I wanted rather than sacrificing to some alternative.
