RP from 06: HM Help -- mexico, spain, or portugal?

FH and I have gone back and forth on the HM ... first we were definitely doing italy but we really want to just chill out and we feel like if we go to italy we'll feel like we should be seeing the sites (neither of us have been there), then we were set on mexico -- cabo. Recently someone told me that it would be HOT there at that time (end of june, beginning of july). So, we're getting a little nervous about that.... Anyone been there at that time?

So -- now we're back to Europe and thinking maybe Spain or Portugal... Anyone have any recommendations on which is best temp wise and location wise?!?! We're looking for pretty beaches and a night life, but also the ability to do some touristy stuff on days we want.

Re: RP from 06: HM Help -- mexico, spain, or portugal?

We went to Cabo for our HM in October and it was hot - 90's. We were told the hottest months were August and September, so maybe June and July are similar to the temps we had. It was pretty hot for us (we're both very fair and don't tan) but it wasn't humid and it was very bearable.

If you are trying to decide between Spain or Portugal, I would prefer Portugal. Specifically Albufeira, which has an old and new town or Vilamoura which is a private resort area and very upscale

Re: RP from 06: HM Help -- mexico, spain, or portugal?

FH and I decided long ago that we wanted to do a European country for our honeymoon. At first, we were deadset on Italy but then decided to do some research on other countries. We read about Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and France. We've made our decision and FH and I are going to Spain. At first we were going to do Spain and Portugal but decided to just focus on Spain. Take out some travel books from the library or head over to Borders and look through their travel books, that's what we did when we were deciding where to go. We wanted to see some vibrant cities (Barcelona), go to the beach, do some outdoorsy things, go to a spa, and see some sites and Spain just had it all for us.

Both Spain and Italy are extremely hot in the summer. I would assume Portugal too but I've never been there. FH and I backpacked around Europe SUmmer of 1999 and it was crazy hot in Spain and Italy. The siestas are good though!

I went to Spain over the summer... went to Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, and Barcelona... Barcelona is amazing.. it's on the beach, great nightlife and some of the best sites. It's very easy to get around, and everyone speaks English (rests. have english menus as well). I've done a lot of travelling and Barcelona was by far the best!

Hi! I have been to both Spain and Portugal. Although, there are some beautiful places to visit in Portugal, I prefer Spain by far! If I had to choose, I would pick Spain.....It's just so beautiful and the people are wonderful.

Good luck!

Re: RP from 06: HM Help -- mexico, spain, or portugal?

This post is making me so excited I am going to Spain in 11 days!

FH and I originally booked Mexico, but thanks to Hurricaine Wilma, we had to look into a new destination. So we picked Spain. We are going to the South part of the country - the Costa del Sol area on the Mediterranean.

Good luck - it's a tough decision!!!
