I got four frames from Michaels. I sanded them down. Then I painted them off white 3 times. I nailed them together - very carefully. I measured and sawed 2 pieces of a flat wood for the bottom and the top. I nailed the bottom to the four frames. I attached a hinge to the back of the top board after I covered it in off-white satin. (There is no slot on the top. I just plan on lifting it. I do not like the idea of leaving a card box out and having people dropping things in at their discretion. I'd rather people hand stuff to us and do it ourselves. ) I glued the flowers on the top at random and then was a little less random on the edges. We do not plan on having a gift table. We will keep it next to us at our table and periodically give the checks to the maitre'd who will lock them in the caterer's safe.
