HELP (related to Irish music)
OK so I am having a really hard time with picking a band. Ultimately I need a band who can play my music(AC/DC, Bon Jovi, etc), 50;s stuff for my parents, country for my FH parents and Irish music. This is nearly impossible to find. Basically I guess I need an Irish band that can do anything because finding a band to play Irish stuff is the hardest. Please help!!!! It seems like most of the traditional wedding bands you hear about on here do not understand the concept of Irish music(although they can do everything else) For example, the band I heard tonight (daybreaks night)idea of Irish music was 'come on Eileen'--not at all what I am talking about. HELP!!!!

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
I would suggest you hire a band you like and then get them to play some Irish CDs for you. Don't knock yourself out. Also, any band worth their weight will learn some Irish songs for you.Did you get to see Niteflight yet?

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
Check out Time Square Orchestra. We heard them at a showcase and they were great. We asked them to do some Italian music and they were great. I know it's not Irish music, but they did a whole ethnic set and were great. They have a showcase tomorrow night. Why not check them out! HTH

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
I personally can't think of anyone, my cousin got married a few years ago and had a really great band. Also her husband owns a few Irish bars (one in Manhattan) and they have bands there I think usually on Saturday nights. So if I get a chance to talk to her, I'll see what she can recommend.

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
maybe you could have a band to play the general stuff and then have a true Irish singer perform at the cocktail hour? This is what I will probably do.

We're having an Irish band at our wedding called Celtic Cross. They have a website with information, www.celticcross.com. They play everything, we've seen them at other weddings and we've danced the whole night (and my FH isn't much of a dancer)

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
times square orchestra will be playing irish music at our wedding. my FH's family is from ireland and his mom really wants certain songs played--but not 'popular' ones. the female singer began singing one of the songs to her at a showcase when FH's mother asked about it, and it seems they are capable of it. i know i have full faith in them

If TSO can handle Irish music, then they are even more amazing than I thought. Seriously, best wedding band I've ever seen. DH doesn't dance. When we saw them, He Danced. He Doesn't Dance. If I remember correctly, he got up to dance to 'What I Like About You'. That night they played songs from Every Single Genre (well, they didn't play country, but that's because the Bride didn't like country), but I'd imagine they could handle anything you threw at them.

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
We used Gerry Finlay and the Cara Band. They are very well known on the Irish scene and even played at Liam Neeson's wedding! They were amazing. They play everything and our guests thought they were fantastic. We had a few set dances and plenty of rock and roll. My boss even said he wants to use them for his next son's bar mitsvah!!! You can see them play most Friday nights at Shandon Court restaurant in East Islip, which Gerry owns.

Yes, check out Times Square Orchestra. I booked them a week ago and tomorrow night they are having a showcase at the Holiday Inn in Westbury. We wanted Irish music also and they nailed it at the last showcase we went to. Good Luck!

Re: HELP (related to Irish music)
Wow--thanks everyone--I didnt think I would get any responses because last time I posted this question I didnt. This will be really helpful-I would also be interested in an Irish ceremony singer if anyone knows of one. My dad plays the bagpipes, so we are definately having that at the reception also. But I dont want it to be all Irish themed so Im glad to have some bands(that I didnt already know of) to hear. Thanks again!

They are great - usually my family used Good Clean Fun, Alive N kickin, or the cunningham bros.
