I think I may have eased my biggest worry...
We have an officiant - a nonreligious, nonoffensive, and FREE officiant!Jeff and I are interfaith, and I was SO worried that choosing an officiant would cause all kinds of arguments and headaches and whatever... but tonight my dad said to me 'you know, we know a judge who could marry you...'
He's a friend of my parents', so he'll already be at the wedding, and obviously he'll do it for free since this isn't something he makes a living at, and he wouldn't charge my parents anyway, and as a judge he's not going to offend anybody's religious sensibilities.
Whew.
The only down side is that he won't come with any prepackaged ceremonies, so we'll have to script the whole thing ourselves from start to finish. I want to plan a lot of the ceremony ourselves anyway, but I was hoping to work with somebody who could give me advice and ideas... but I guess that's what the internet is for

Of course, we haven't actually asked the guy yet, but the chances he'll say no are pretty slim. As my dad said: 'he was at your Bat Mitzvah. I know he'd be honored to marry you.'
Now, as I heave a sigh of relief, I must actually focus on writing this damn term paper instead of constantly refreshing my LIW chat windows. Anybody want to write my paper and have an interest in PTSD in WWI as evidenced through several novels? Any takers?
I hate end-of-semester stress...

It's funny... I never thought of it either, and was going to book one of those 'professional' interfaith officiants, but they seem to have a pretty high sense of what an hour or so of their time is worth... and my fmil greeted that idea with some disdain, saying they're all really commercial quacks and that we should look into a Unitarian minister or something. (ignoring that Unitarian is still technicially Christian, and is really a religion in it's own right!)
I was forseeing a lot of displeasure... this is so much simpler!

What is your test on? I might be willing to trade

Ug. Clearly, I'm working on my paper now. This is ridiculous!

So glad to hear that your biggest worry has been eased. I think it's great that you have someone who could marry you two.
