Newbie needs help
Hi all! First congrats to everyone! I am a little worried because my FH is not an American citizen so we have to wait until the Government gives us the ok to go through with the wedding. When we do get the ok we only have 90 days to plan and get married. My dream is to get married in May but with things as they are it may be earlier or later. I was wondering if there were any suggestions as to what I can do now to start planning so when the time comes I am not so overwhelmed and going around like a chicken with out a head. I would love to hear any and all opinions. And also after we get married he will most likely have to go back to Holland until we get his permanent residency so not only do we have the 90 days to get married but he is only allowed to stay for the 90 days so that will be my time with him until he has to go back :( I would like to make the day as magickal as possible for him but also like to do it ASAP so that I can spend time with him as husband and wife...SO HELP PLEASE......

Re: Newbie needs help
Would it be possible to have a civil ceremony when the Government gives the okay, and then you can go ahead and plan the big wedding for whenever you want?I know that's probably not what you wanted, but 90 days is an awfully short time to have to plan. In the meantime, I'd definitely get on dresses. They can be purchased without a definite date in mind (just give the dress shop a fake date outside of the rush period).

Re: Newbie needs help
That was my first thought, than I got to thinking maybe doing it at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford. Getting a judge or someone ordained to do the ceremony. But planning an outside wedding I think is even more stressfull considering the unpredictableness of mother nature. I have been looking at dresses in magazines to get an idea but that was all I could think of to do.

Re: Newbie needs help
I am assuming you do not want to have the city hall wedding and then later have a real ceremony and reception so, I would first say shop for the dress first.B/c the dress if ordered will take the longest. You may be
able to buy a sample which will make your life easier. Since, you don't know your date I would shop vendors. You will need to have back up vendors since you don't know the date you will need to make sure you have more than one fave in the event your first choice in vendors are booked. You could also, get the favors out of the way since that will not be effected whether you get married now or later and that will be one thing off the list. Good Luck

Do you know approximately how lon git will take the government to give you the okay. Have they given you a time period? 6-9 months? You probably could get a great deal on a reception hall that close to the date.

Re: Newbie needs help
It takes 3-5 months from when they receive the paper work to make the decision. Then from the day we get the letter we have the 90 days to get ready. I will look into vendors thank you for the suggestion. The place I would love to get married at is the Millridge. My best friend is getting married there in Feb. and I went with her to look at it and it was so beautiful and you so get what you pay for it's awesome. But I am sure that, that is the busiest time of the year for them and I probably won't get a date there.I also have a kinda stupid question but it's sitting on my head: Are we supposed to pay for the out of towners hotel rooms? Because Goddess knows I so do not have that kind of money. I really do not know anything about planning a wedding. I was married when I was 17 but my mom planned the whole thing I just showed up lol.

Re: Newbie needs help
Even better if you have 3-5 months and than 90 days from then. Since you like the Milleridge you may want to check out their sister hall Washington Manor. It is lovely and more flexible with price and # of guest. It also has the same beautiful hard wood floors as the Milleridge. The washington manor is located in Roslyn. They are not as busy as the Milleridge in so you may even be able to find availability in dates.

Re: Newbie needs help
Wow! Thank you all. I definately did come to the right place for answers. I just so want to make the best of everything and having him so far away it is quite the challenge. I don't want to be so stressed out when the time comes that I forget what it is all for.

Yes! You should go!!! You can see all sorts of vendors in action as well as meet up with so many LIW ladies! People go stag all the time, you don't have to bring anyone.
