Sand Ceremony or Unity Candle
Since I never heard of a sand ceremony until this site, I guess I will have to say unity candle.

Re: Sand Ceremony or Unity Candle
I am doing the unity candle.I believe the sand ceremony is where you each have a container of some sort with a different color sand in it and then you pour it into a single container blending the two sands

Re: Sand Ceremony or Unity Candle
sand ceremony!!! FH and i felt like the unity candle is nice..but wanted something different. so we're blending two different colored sands that will turn into a new color. and later we can display the container in our home.generally, this is something similiar to what the officant will say as we pour the sand. (we still have to work with her and verify the wording.)
8) Sand Ceremony: Melissa and Peter, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and the exchange of vows, and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you, Melissa and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, Peter, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.

Re: Sand Ceremony or Unity Candle
We did a sand ceremony for our wedding. It's basically what the other girls have already mentioned, where you have two containers of sand (different colors) and you pour it into one container. We did it mainly because we wanted some sort of unity thing, but we had the ceremony outside, so the candles would've blown out.

We did the Unity Candle. I'm a candle person...and I fell in love with the set I got...we too had an outdoor ceremony in the end of October...Thankfully the flame did not go out.
