Reception Hall Question

My soon to be wife and I are looking at 2 Halls. They are:

The Water's Edge in Long Island City & Gargiulo's in Brooklyn.

We both love the Water's Edge. It is a beautiful place, but here is my concern. The Water's Edge is a fancy place. I am really concerned that even though the menu offers such things as 12 passed appetizers and 5 different stations for your coctail hour, I am really afarid that this will not be alot of food. I like a large spread. Has anyone ever been there for a wedding? Can you tell me how it was? How does it compare (if you know) to the amount of food in other places during the coctail hour?

Also, if anyone has any experiences at a wedding at Gargiulo's please let me know your feelings.

Thank You.

Re: Reception Hall Question

Went to a wedding at the Water's Edge and the food was great and plentiful. Just make sure your guests will fit comfortably. The wedding we went to was very crowded with 200+ people.

Re: Reception Hall Question

First of all: WELCOME!!

i've never been to that hall...but your CH doesn't include such things as a pasta station? bread table? cheese table? vegetable crudite table? carving station? these are usual things they have for a CH.

Re: Reception Hall Question

No the Coctail Hour does offer all that. But the place just seems real fancy and when they say station, I hope it is a station and not some small cart.

Re: Reception Hall Question

Steve, I think that you would probably get an overabundance of food at Garguilos as compared to The Water's Edge. I've been to both. The Water's Edge is a little more 'she-she' (not mean to insult-I had a great time and the food was very good), but Garguilos was like crazy amounts of food (I also love that).

I think you will be good with either. Pick the place that you really love. The food will be plenty at the Waters Edge if that's what you are worried about.

Re: Reception Hall Question

I have been to the restaurant and the food is good. But have you ever been to the Water's Edge?

The two places are definitely totally different. Gargiulo's is totally Italian and Waters Edge is more American. But the Water's Edge has so much ambiance.

they were like a 'normal' station. Not small at all.

I can't remember exactly, but there was a generous amount of food and it was very good.

Did anyone on here get married at the Water's edge? That would also be very helpful.

Re: Reception Hall Question

I went to check out the Watersedge, the view is breathtaking! How many people are you planning on having? It was too small for my wedding, I wanted the CT hour outside and if it rained it would be in the main room. Did they tell you that?

Re: Reception Hall Question

I am planning on having approx 175 people. It will be in late March or April. They told us that if the weather permits, that it is our choice if we want to have it outside, but, they do not need to know about it until that day. I do not mind the inside room though. I really like the fireplaces.
