NWR: Need advice on a job issue - UPDATED
I started working with a company the first week of the month, but after 3 days I realized the job was not for me, and the commute into the city was a PITA. Technically, I would have been paid on the 15th. Well I had quit on the 9th, but I worked for 3 days. I know it was screwed up of me to do, but at least I gave them notice!! I have seen people just walk out or not come back without explanation!!So now here I am figuring I should at least be getting a paycheck for those 3 days that I worked. But here we are on the 21st, and nothing. No paycheck. I am thinking maybe this is their way of getting back at me and they figured I could claim unemployment. If it was mailed out, it should have been on the latest, Friday, and it doesn't take that long even with the holidays!
FH thinks I should just write it off as a loss. But it's about $400 I earned for those 3 days. Should I call? Wait a few more days? I know they will be closed on Friday and possibly all of next week, so tomorrow is my only option to contact them. Or should I write it off like FH says? For some reason I am pretty sure it is against the law to withhold pay or not pay someone for time worked!

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
You worked those three days and should definitely be paid for them. Even though you quit, you were employed there for three days and you did not work there for free!!! I would definitely call them and ask where your check is. Don't even ask if you will be paid. Call up and say something like ' I still haven't received my check and was wondering if it was sent out yet.'

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
You have to remember that sometimes when you start a new job, they hold a paycheck back. When I started my job now, I didn't get at paycheck for almost a month. That maybe why, you haven't received anything.I would wait a little longer and then call them. I would definitely try to get the money, you did work for 3 days.

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
There was no holding back, I know what you are talking about. When I started, they told me I would be getting paid on the 15th for the pay period of the 5th - 16th.
I will have to call tomorrow. I have a feeling that the guy who was training me, told them not to bother since I could probably claim unemployment instead. But it's too late, I only claimed unemployment for 2 days that week!!

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
You need to get paid and the employer needs to pay their portion of the taxes. It's the law. Definitely give them a call.

I was an accounting manager there, and I left for a few reasons.
1. The person training me was more interested in doing his personal stuff than actually train me
2. I think I was in over my head, I felt overwhelmed, which is not typical for me
3. The commute was a PITA
4. I got a better offer 3 days later and closer to home

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
I think you should call but also sometimes it takes atleast 1 pay period for your paperwork to go throughWhy don't you contact the dept of labor and see what they say. I have contacted them a few times via e-mail and they always get back to me the same day

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
Definitely call HR. They have to pay you for the three days that you worked. It could be that there is a delay getting you on payroll--sometimes it takes two pay periods to actually get paid, depending how organized they are.I would look into it. It is a lot to write off!

Re: NWR: Need advice on a job issue
I'm an HR Manager and if you worked you should be paid for those days. Do you know if the employee's there are paid current or in the rears? That might be why you havn't gotten paid yet. I would definitely call your entitled to the money.Welcome New Vendors
