Where is everyone cutting costs?
I feel like I'm one of the very few who isn't doing:slipper baskets
save the dates
programs
out of town baskets
petal cones (getting married inside the hall so I really don't need them)
my hall provides the menus on the table and bathroom baskets or else I wouldn't have those either
I just hate to spend money on things people with throw away or not even notice.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
I am cutting costs by doing a lot of things myself... i made my own invites, & stds... i will make my own programs and menus.I am doing a donation favor instead of spending a whole bunch of money on favors that may end up getting tossed...
for CPs, instead of doing flowers, which i would love to do, im doing a candle CP to save some $$$
I decided that i couldnt afford to have both a photog and a videographer and purchase albums, so i decided to make my own photo albums and i orded a proof only package... so i got get both the videographer and the photographer...
eta: im not doing the slipper baskets or OOT baskets, because personally, i dont think they are necessary as well...

No slipper baskets, save the dates, petal cones or bathroom baskets for me. IMHO, they are an unnecessary expense

I am not doing any of those things either. Don't feel bad. Remember it's your day, plus we're all on a budget, it all depends on personal tastes and wants. Just because others are doing it doesn't mean you may want to. Just do what's important to YOU!!!

No bathroom baskets, slipper baskets, STDs... not sure about the programs and petal cones, but if I do them I will make it myself.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
I'm hoping to do a slipper basket, only because I think its a good idea. I'm often one of those people wearing uncomfortable shoes at a party and would love to change the into something way more comfortable. The save the dates I'm printing myself. So it isn't costnig me much. Same with the programs.
I would love to out of town baskets, basically because so many of my OOT guest I haven't seen in yrs, like my MOH who is in the miltery.
I'm not having petal cones, but I want people to throw leaves at us, so we might just do leaf cones.
However I'm saving money the following ways...
I'm only serving wine and beer at the wedding. I get the church cheaper that way, and I don't have to pay for the bar, or have to worry about drunks every where.
I'm having a friday wedding
I asked my cater in my buffet station style wedding to serve the three meats, ham, turkey and lamb on the bone. It looks more period for a medieval wedding and it saves me a lot of $$$!

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
just my opinion here but after going through the whole wedding experience and looking at the list I would say save the dates are a good thing. I agree there are so many things that can you do without. I had a lot of details and people noticed but I didnt change the day either way.We did save the date magnets and I think they were worth it. Trust me when it is invite time people will definately say well i forget the date...but again you know the people you are inviting.

I'm not doing the slipper baskets, out of town baskets, or petal cones either. I have way too many OOT guests to put together a basket for them. It's all just too much money!

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
I won't have many extras - petal cones, slipper basket, etc. I did my own menus, CD favors start to finish, I designed my own program and had the print job done for free as a gift, etc. And instead of OOT bags, I may just do a welcome letter to give everyone info. I don't have the time to make 25 OOT bags!

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
yeah i am not doing ALOT of things. i am on a tight budget.no save the dates- an email can go out...
no slipper baskets- i have many old people at my wedding. they will for sure be wearing comfy shoes.
no video- i despise being in video and photos so much. FHs dad already said he will be busy videoing. he does a good job and he loves to do it. it makes him happy. i want to be able to enjoy the day without someone in my face.
no petal cones- i wish i could but my church doesnt allow it.
i may do programs and menus. if i find some nice paper at a good price.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
I am focusing on quality rather than quantity of the extra things.I used VistaPrint for my STD's, I got a great deal on my invites (included thank you cards and place cards - that were custom done for me), I am personally making our CD favors from start to finish (doing this right now), I am doing my own programs and it'll cost so little. Menus are provided by the hall.
I will do an amenity basket (but not go crazy on it) and OOT boxes (not crazy).
I have no idea what we are throwing after the wedding...but I'm thinking...
So... I really think if you focus on making the details you ARE doing wonderful, then no one will notice the other things.
Let's not forget: without LIW, we probably wouldn't know about a lot of these things either!

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
We aren't having a videographer and we are doing our own save the dates, I picked up some cute wintery stationary from Staples. We're doing out of town gift bags which we got from Michaels with the discount coupons. We aren't doing anything to throw at the church, we're making our own programs, no slipper baskets, probably not bathroom baskets, we're having low centerpieces (I wanted to cut flowers completely but, mom wanted them), I'm not doing menus, I'm going to use the place cards the hotel provides, and we're addressing and assembling our own invitations.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
we are doing alternating high and low centerpieces to cut costs. also not doing slipper baskets or petal cones - not really necessary imo.
