Anyone live or know someone who lives in Battery Park City in Manhattan?
We are looking at a few apartments down there and I want to know more about the neighborhood? Do you or someone you know like living there?

I knew people that lived down there and loved it. I think the downside of lower Manhattan is the fact that you are so very downtown! But Battery Park City is a community in itself!

MY MOH lives way downtown in the Financial District, not necessarily Battery Park, but she is def downtown. I think she likes it because her and her roommates have a great apartment for a good price, but she has a hard time getting cabs, and it seems kind of depressing down there to me (jmo).

I work down there. There doesn't seem to be a lot of residential businesses & services (dry cleaners, supermarkets, etc)
All of the delis close at 5 or 6, but maybe down closer to the apartments thare are more things like that (we just moved there so I don't know the area too well)
It is quiet though & seems a little more peaceful than other parts of Manhattan.
And since it so narrow down there it isn't a far walk to any of the train lines.

Re: Anyone live or know someone who lives in Battery Park City in Manhattan?
I used to date a guy that lived down there, and although I liked the area during the days, at night it is deserted. I did not really feel safe walking from the subway to his place, because there was not a soul around, if I was attacked or something nobody would find me until the next business day. They are trying to turn it into a residential area, unless you are right in battery park city where they have everything RIGHT THERE, it is not conveniant to grocery stores, and a lot of the business are closed after 6 or 7. On the upside, there are some really nice affordable apartments in the area and some gorgeous views if you live in a highrise. Hope this helps!Welcome New Vendors
