They told us they 'forgot' their gift and would drop it off but never did...We even got a Christmas card from them!!!! Sorry, its just been eating at me for weeks!!!!

For some people, my wedding was the one last chance I was giving them--and now I've written them off (see my post above).

Re: Vent about wedding guests!!!!

Is it an unspoken rule that all guests should bring gifts??? Is this 'why' we invite those to share our day -- in order to receive a gift? I mean, financially if they are unable to 'bless' you with a gift, should they not even consider attending, which I'm sure many would have a problem with that, as well. I'm just curious....

We have a few people that didn't give us gifts and there isn't a problem with that...The problem is that we went to this couples wedding 6 weeks before ours when money was tight and still gave them a nice gift.

No, we don't invite our guests for a gift - but we're honest here and it's reality that on someone's special occasion, you give a gift, unless of course there are circumstances that prevent that.
BTW, odd first post

Re: Vent about wedding guests!!!!

Absolutely right... nice observation. First post on THIS board. I usually just come here and 'observe.' I noticed a lot of upset brides that were bothered by no gifts and wanted to know the rationale.... Thanks for your explanation. If one doesn't know or understand, one should inqure. I did.
No hidden or underlying message attached; simply wanted to know. Thanks again.

um...no- we invite to share in the special occasion

we have a few friends who are going thru a rought time finacinally- and we told them not to give us gifts

but in the case of my friend- who 'forgot' again- she makes about $100K a year

IMO, if I just attended someone's wedding and gave a gift (like the original poster did) I would hope that they would at least reciprocate in some way.

I could never FATHOM receiving a gift from someone at my wedding, and then going to that person's wedding 6 weeks later empty handed.

It's almost like her guests were saying 'you just aren't worth my effortt' and it's rude.

IMO, going to a wedding empty handed is just not acceptible. Even a small trinket could be purchased for less than the cost of a cheeseburger. Something should be given to the bride and groom.

I totally agree with everything you said!!!! If we hadn't been at their wedding a few weeks before ours, there would be no issue.

I had a similar situation and believe me, I know how it feels. Well, what i did in the hopes of sparking their memory was send them a 'we've moved' card with our new address - so they can now mail us our gift to the right address!!! still haven't received anything though!

Re: Vent about wedding guests!!!!

I think i can almost top yours....DH had friends of his from work that we WERE close to. Both of them are very well off and have a million dollar home.

At the wedding the guy goes up to my husband and says listen we didn't bring your gift because we give cash at weddings and we don't want you to spend in on your HM (???). Over a year later absolutely nothing and we did hang out a few times after the wedding.

We did learn a lot about them since then. He borrowed money from DH and did not pay it back until DH mentioned it to him. There was also another incident and after speaking to others that know them they apparently are well known for doing things like this. Maybe that is why they are millionairs Needless to say we don't speak to them anymore.

We also had another couple who we were very close too that DH had met at work and very well off. He told DH that they were getting us a case of a wine that i particularly love....but they could only find 6 bottles of it so far.......I guess it's been real hard to find the other 6. They kind of dropped off the face of the earth too.

You find out a lot about people when having a wedding. I found out things about friends that i knew almost my whole life. Opened my eyes to a lot of people (not just the non-gifters).
