Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

I have reviewed the legalese part of the contract with the hall I want. Although I'm not a lawyer, I'm a banker and I negotiate contracts all the time. I read the reception hall contract and it is so extremely one sided. I have a few changes I want to make and my question is, has anyone else requested changes to the reception hall contract?

Do they generally accept changes (mine happen to be very reasonable). (I'll give you an example, their contract says if something happens beyond their control, they have no liability if they can't perform services, meaning cater my wedding. That is OK, except in that case, I should get my money back).

Has anyone, especially you lawyer brides, requested changes and gotten them?

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

There were no changes I needed to make in reception hall contract, although I did make one (without any hassle at all) in photography contract.

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

To any of the lawyer brides out there - did you make any changes to the reception hall contract? Or am I just being too much of an old lady nitpicker?

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

It doesn't hurt to ask. I work with contracts too, and some of my vendors, I didn't say anything about specific things in the agreement and I'm kicking myself for not saying anything.

Just ask. Worse they can do is say no.

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

I made significant changes to my contract with the band. My FBIL is a lawyer and looked over everything for us.

It wasn't a big deal.

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

I also made some changes to the reception hall contract...even completely crossed out some sections. And they were fine with it.

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

I also did exactly what JackieZ,and they had their lawyer look it over and made all the changes right away. Our's was also one-sided..in their favor
I don't think many people do this that often, that's probably why it is not a problem.
My Uncle is a lawyer so we had him look it over..thank goodness

Re: Reception Hall Contract Legal Question

definitely fight to make your changes, b/c if something does go wrong, you dont want to be stuck paying for it...I urge any bride to being the contract to a lawyer to see if its something you can handle, b/c these vendors know how ot get your money, even if something goes wrong on their part..so YES be aggressive about your changes...
