Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

Interesting article - I think a lot of brides feel this way & go through a slump right after, into the first year. I like the way they talk about societys expectations of what a 'wife' is...
It does take a long time to make a life...
So...the dishes aren't clean, you don't have a couch yet, your album pics aren't selected yet...the most important thing to do right after you get married - is enjoy each other and have fun.

Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

I think I'm finally coming out of this fog. After we came back from our honeymoon and the reality of life came back...and that on top of the situation with our pictures.. I was having a hard time. I was definately still in wedding fantasy land and when reality slapped me in the face, it' depressed me that I'm no longer a bride to be.

Not to be misunderstood - I LOVE being married and being a wife to my incredible DH, but it was a hard trip down from that cloud.

Ugh... probably not explaining myself right....

I can relate.
I felt the same way to. The week of my wedding I kept
saying I couldn't wait for this wedding to be over with
and than when we came home from our honeymoon I was
soooo sad that it was done. I still haven't thrown our any
of my bridal magazines and my binder with all my notes and
contracts from my vendors. I'm fine now but it's hard
after you spend so much of your time planning something and than it's done.

Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

I can identify with this article. After getting married, I was down for a month or so. There was a close member of my family dealing with a serious illness during that time also, so I think that added to the problem, but I missed the planning process. Which seemed crazy, because towards the end, I couldn't wait for the planning to be over and for my old life to resume!

The article mentions wanting to be Martha Stewart, and while DH has no such expectations of me, I started buying that magazine (and another which is similar) and looking at decor ideas, recipes, etc. I do like to cook, but generally speaking, this is not me.

Now I've adjusted, and I love just being a wife and figuring out what being a wife means to me, but in the beginning it was rough.

Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

I enjoyed reading that article. thanks for posting it

I guess I am in the minority. while I miss the excitement leading up to my wedding, I am so glad to have my life back! no more planning, wedding stress and anxiety. and the best part, no more $$$$$$$$ being spent on ONE day!

Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

thank you, I'm glad(?) to see I'm not alone in feeling the way I did after our wedding. DH and I actually had a long talk about this the other night. He knows I've been upset over our pictures, and I'm REALLY trying to come to terms with the fact that they are what they are. But he thought that was why I've been so moody. It was just around the time we got our proofs that I started coming off this high, so I think the issue with them just magnified my post-wedding depression.

It just made me feel better to see that this is actually a common occurance and it wasn't just me.

Re: Interesting Article for Newlyweds

Good article. I wasn't sad or down afterwards, I was very much relieved. We planned our wedding A-Z, in 7 months. It was a hectic pace! So I was glad for the peace and solitude afterwards.

We planned it in a short amount of time too. We got engaged in Feb and married in Nov, but really didn't start planning until April.
