Typical Contract Terms for Final Reception Payment?
Hi Everyone - Just finalizing my contract with my reception hall. What is the typical payment schedule for your final payment to the hall? My place is saying 5 days in advance by certified or bank check. Is that standard? When my parents were married (over 30 years ago!) they didn't have to pay until the day of the wedding and my mom is concerned that we have to pay in advance. I guess in case there is an issue with services the day of the wedding, there is not as much recourse (which hopefully won't happen!) If anyone can clarify this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks..

Re: Typical Contract Terms for Final Reception Payment?
I think we made our payment around 5 days before the wedding. I think it's pretty standard.

Re: Typical Contract Terms for Final Reception Payment?
My final payment is due about a week before I think. It seemed pretty standard with all the places I looked at that you had to pay in full before the day of. One place actually said to me 'We don't cook until the money is took.'

Re: Typical Contract Terms for Final Reception Payment?
They all definitely require the money before the day of. Some up to 3 weeks before. Just make sure that everything they tell you is included is written in the contract (ex-valet parking, 1 waiter per table, wine on the tables etc.) The contract is all you have to fall back on if anything is not correct.

I have to agree, it is pretty standard. BUT, you should also make sure all extras, are specifically stated in the final contract as stated above.

We had to give the final head count and the final payment (including the gratuity and the taxes) the Thursday before our Sunday wedding, but we did not give any of the tips until the day of the wedding.

Re: Typical Contract Terms for Final Reception Payment?
Oh, please!!!! I feel your pain! My dad was a BM for many years, many years ago and it still stuck on the whole payment in advance thing. Then my hall tried to make my final payment 2 months in advance....ummmm....hello? I hadn't even sent my invites yet!!! Long story with that though. Anyway, I got it down to 1 month and didn't end up paying till the week before. And of course I didn't tell dad!!!!Your terms sound normal for a LI hall though. Just explain to mom that times are different now, and while it is absolute BS, it's what they require and I doubt anyone will change that.

90% of our balance is due one month before the big day and the remaining 10% is due 2 days before.
