Hand Cancel???

I just saw something about hand cancelling invitations on another post. What is hand cancelling? I am completely clueless!!!

It's the stamp they use instead of sending the invites through the machine. It make the invite cleaner, instead of having that huge postmark going across your invites.

So the stamp the post office puts on is in addition to my postage stamp, correct? Is the huge postmark you refer to that big red one that they put across the postage stamp?

Here's a pic of an invite I got with a hand canceling stamp. It is the big red circle in the upper corner. Hope this helps!!
