my first dress shopping experience
So, my mom and I checked out a local bridal boutique this afternoon.I have to say... the experience was a little disappointing. I found it very awkward trying the dresses on with this strange woman pulling and tugging at them, and I really couldn't get a feel for how the dresses would fit, because I'm a size 10 and all the samples couldn't have been bigger than a size 6 or so, and none of them would even begin to zip up. It was pretty frustrating.
I also felt like the dresses my mom really liked weren't the ones I liked, and neither she nor the shop lady seemed to really be absorbing the idea that I do NOT want a big long train on my dress - I honestly just don't like them.
My mom also hasn't given up on the idea of my wearing a veil... yeah.
I did find one dress that I liked, but it was hard to tell because I couldn't zip it so it looked strange.
At least though I'm starting to get an idea of what I like and want and what I don't. And I have lots of time to try again... I was just hoping that trying on dresses would make me feel pretty and bridal, like I would have that 'gasp, I'm really getting married!' feeling, and it didn't happen.
But we shall try again. Hopefully some time soon my maid of honor will come for a visit and she and my mom and I can all go together. I think that would be lots of fun.
Hope all you girls who are looking have more luck than I did!

My first experience was similar!! The second time I went to a different bridal shop and had so much fun. The samples fit me and the bridal attendent brought out the dresses that she felt would look good on me and she was right on the money!! Better luck next time!!! It will get better!!!!

Yeah I had the same experience. I think it's pretty normal actually. I was being pinned here and there just to hold the dress closed on my back. I wasn't discouraged in the least bit though. I found a gown I absolutely love, so now I don't have to deal with that anymore.

My first experience was nothing like that , thought I feared that it would be. I went to Bridal Garden in Bethpage and the girl there was wonderful, I don't know where you live, but if it is not too far for you I say try them out I explained what I wanted and the girl got me exactly what I asked for, I also didn't want a long train, and didn't bring out one dress with one.

I loved Bridal Garden. I went there for my BMs. I had already picked out my dress when I went there or I would have bought it there.
Sara-I also was bigger than a 6 and I went to David's bridal to try on dresses in my size. That was a much better experience. Also remember that the gown sizes are at least 2 sizes above your real size. Don't get discouraged. My dress sample I tried on was an 8! I am a real 12-14, so I would need two dresses to cover me! A size 8 is like a real size 2 or 4.

Re: my first dress shopping experience
I understand exactly what you mean. My first experience was on a whim...my mom and I went out for lunch, and she said, let's just go browse through a bridal shop! I said ok, but I am nowhere near the shape I want to be into for my wedding, so I made it abundantly clear to my mom in the car that I didn't want to try anything on, just look to get an idea. she was fine with that, however the lady in the bridal shop was not. she put tons of pressure on me to try something on (i stood my ground though) and made me feel like an idiot. not exactly what I wanted my first experience to be like...but I am hoping the second is much much better! We have it set up so that my sisters will be with us as well...and they are my source of excitement, support, etc.Good luck to you, i am sure it will get TONS better!!
