Saturday afternoon ceremony

I am having a difficult time finding a church to hold the ceremony. My reception is on a Saturday at 7, but the church only has ceremonies starting at 2:30 because of Saturday evening mass at 5. IF I have my ceremony at 2:30, there would be too much time in between the ceremony and reception. I don't want to have my ceremony at the location because they can't start the ceremony until 7. Does anyone know a church near Land's End that does not have a 5:00 saturday evening mass?

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

The problem is that I can have the ceremony there, but the ceremony will start at 7 and an hour will be added on to the reception, so it will go until 1 a.m. That seems too late to me. By the way, what is the weather like around that time? I was hoping people would be able to enjoy the outside!! I am going to worry for the rest of the year abou the weather on that one day!

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

My ceremony starts at 6:00 then the cocktail will be outside until 8:00 and it ends at 12:00. I plan on taking pictures from 6:30-7:15 then joining the cocktail hour. My ceremony is outside too. The weather could be 60-70, being that this weather is so crazy. Don't stress about the weather, it'll be beautiful - because we're getting married...I'm going to send you a FM.

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

You are absolutely right!! I have so many other things to stress about. Another question...I have no clue what to do with the bridesmaids..since it is a transitional time of year do you lean more towards the summer or the fall?

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

I have the same problem - my church is at 2:30 and reception is 7:30. I figured the guests can go back to the hotel for a couple of cocktails in between. I wouldn't sacrifice getting married somewhere you want to just to worry about time in between. Remember the ceremony is the important part and the party is just o celebrate. I think people usually find something to do in between and then you will also have time to take pictures and enjoy your cocktail hour.

Good Luck

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

Hi there!
My reception is at 7, my ceremony is at 3. I am spending a LOT more on a limo, but I figure the big gap will give us PLENTY of time to get pictures taken, so we shouldn't miss our CH!

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

i don't have any church suggestions for you but DO NOT worry about the time gap. the extra time will give you time to take photos with your bp and family, AND will allow you to not miss the cocktail hour with your guests. As for the guests, they'll find something to do in-between (whether it be roam around on their own, or going back to their hotels), but that shouldn't be your concern.

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

Honestly, there is never too much time especially on your wedding day. We got married at 1pm and our cocktail hour began at 6pm, we just made it back in time to had a small bite and were able to finish taking pictures in the reception hall.

Honestly, I think 2:30 is fine.

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

I had a similar situation and was so upset about it at first but wanted to get married in the church I grew up in.

It worked on so wonderful and I am SO GLAD we had the gap.

We had our ceremony at 2:30 and after pics, etc were done at 3:30. We took pictures with the families from 3:3--4:30, went to another location (Oakdale Arboretum) and took pics witht he bridal party 5-6 and then arrived a bit early and time to relax at our reception site. CH started at 7.

We were able to fully enjoy the day, get all our pics in and attend our cocktail hour.

Most guests took a nap, changed, hung out at home or the hotel bar...

It will be ok if you can't move the time but GL in finding what you want!!!

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

we have a 3pm mass and a 7pm cocktail hour. we're going to do all the formal photos after church and do a hospitality suite at the hotel for people who want to mingle before the party starts. it's another expense, but i hope worth it for the OOT guests.

Re: Saturday afternoon ceremony

Thanks for all the calming words!! i just feel bad because most of my family is coming from Westchester, so they are not going to have hotel rooms, but it is too far for them to go back home in between the ceremony and reception. My cousins can find a bar to hang out, but I was worried about the older relatives, which there are quite a few.

Try not to worry. Could you parents have them back to their house? A lot of times that's what is done for the 'older' family. If not I'm sure they'll find something. It's nice out in Sept. maybe they'll just find a park. My ceremony was at 3 and my cocktail hour started at 7 and everyone was fine (and it was cold as you know what out!)
