Re: Reform Rabbi recommendations?

What exactly are you looking for?

The rabbi at the temple we go to is wonderful

and there are always the rabbis who do interfaith weddings, by definition, they are pretty liberal

Re: Reform Rabbi recommendations?

I'm not sure what you mean by very reform. I highly recommend the Reform Rabbi that I am using, but he does have traditional requests such as not wanting our wedding bands to have diamonds at the ceremony if that bothers you. FM me if you want his details.

Rabbi Roger Ross (lovingheartceremonies.com) is as reform as a Rabbi can get but very $$$.

Don;t say he's as reform as they get, say he's as liberal as they get. He's not a reform rabbi as far as I know, and a lot of his practices would probably be frowned upon by many in the reform movement. (not saying this as good or bad.)

I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the correction, I'm brain-dead from work and couldn't think of the right way to say it. I definitely don't to be misleading!

Re: Reform Rabbi recommendations?

I am Reform. We essentially had a Reform ceremony. We used Rabbi Roger Ross who was wonderful. He's very flexible and open to any type of ceremony you want.

No, it's fine. Everyone knows what you mean. But I'm not sure what the poster is looking for, and if someone wants to visit an actual reform rabbi because they want to join a reofmr community, or they want to ask a question based on staying within reform guidleines, etc, he wouldn;t be the right person to necessarily go to.

For example, the rabbi at our temple is a wonderful reform rabbi... will she officiate at our wedding? no would she performa wedding on shabbat? no etc..so she would be a great resource for info on the reform movement and living a reform jewish life, but not a great resource if you're looking for someone who is liberal and will bend or otherwise disregard rules held by various sects of judaism.

From what I've read of Rabbi Ross' writings ans his background I really agree with a lot of the stuff he writes about interfaith issues, etc.

Re: Reform Rabbi recommendations?

Hi all--sorry for the confusion. We're looking for a reform rabbi to marry us. By 'very reform' I mean my fiance doesn't want to wear a yalmulke and my wedding band will have stones. Neither of us feel a strong tie to religion, but I still want to be married by a rabbi who will not make us do anything we aren't comfortable with.

Any recommendations would be great!

What I meant by my question is, Is it important to you that the rabbi who officiates at your wedding is recognized by the reform movement?

I've heard good things about Rabbi Roger Ross. He's very liberal. From my conversations with him, I don't think the wedding bands or yarmu;ke will be an issue. He said he will even perform weddings on Shabat and in a church, or any site

ETA: The reason I'm asking this is because my FH is kind of put off buy the fact that Rabbi Ross is not part of a major well known sect of judaism, etc and you or your families might feel the same way, or you may not care, etc.

We go to Temple Emanuel in New Hyde Park. I've never been to a wedding there, but I have seen people on the bima without yarmulkes.

I had the same question a day ago, I contacted Rabbi Ross but he was booked on my wedding date, he was really nice and gave me the contact information for 2 other Rabbis.

I have a question though how expensive is expensive? What is the average rate of a Rabbi?? I was quoted $750, is that alot???
