I want to add a half hour to our wedding... POLL

Right now, my cocktail hour would start at 4:30 (sunset is at 4:40, so I want the guests to be there as the sun sets). But, I will be out taking sunset pics then, so I was thinking of extending the cocktail hour by a half hour, ending at 6 (it's only an extra 5 bucks per person for the half hour). Then the reception would end at 10 (it's a Sunday night). OR I can do a one hour cocktail hour and extend the RECEPTION by a half hour, from 5:30 to 10. I'm kind of partial to extending the cocktail hour since that's usually my favorite part of a wedding anyway (LOVE the food!). What do you think? If you were a guest, would you rather have a longer cocktail hour or reception?

I would extend the reception. Altho I also love the CH, I feel an hour and a half may be too long. During the reception people will be dancing (hopefully) and if you're band/DJ is good then everyone will really appreciate the extra time. JMO!!

We had an extra hour on the reception. Truthfully, the day was long enough. I wouldn't recommend doing it although we had fun.

I'd rather have a longer CH, in fact, I am also extending mine since we will be having a lot of boozers!

me too - we extended ours to 2 hours We LOVE the CH and LOVE to eat, and FH and I aren't really dancers so CH all the way! Plus we will miss some of the CH taking pictures - so it was an obvious choice for us.

If I could extend my party I would. I would rather have more time for dancing and being with friends and family

FH and I are extending our wedding by 1 hour. We are doing 1/2 hour extra in the CH, and 1/2 hour extra for the reception. I could not make up my mind which one I wanted to extend more. I love all the food in the CH so I wanted that, and I want to dance with everyone, so I wanted it in the reception too. So I thought this was the best way to do it. Just so you know, if you extend the extra half hour to the reception, it will cost you more to keep the dj/band there, so you have to consider that as well.

We decided to extend by an hour. 1/2 hour more for CH and 1/2 more for Reception.

This is what we're planning on doing as well! It's worked nicely at other weddings we've been to (although for our wedding we don't have to worry about travel time between hotel and reception).

I think if I had to choose one thing over the other to extend it would be the CH.

Just be careful about extending. I wasnted to extend since I'm having a full venetian hour, BUT the overtime charges for bands and DJs can be outrageous!

I would extent the reception time - I prefer the reception time more then the cocktail hour because I like to dance and party!

Depends on your party, but considering it is Sunday night event, I would not extend it. People may leave early.

i think i would add it to the reception... the time there goes sooo fast with dancing and stuff... the coctail hour food is GREAT, but theres is not much going on besides eating and drinking, so i think extending that time it might start to drag a little....
i'd take more music and dancing time

definitely add it to the reception....I am so ready for the CH to be over at most weddings...I think extending it would drag it out.

If you add it to the reception will you have to pay extra for your band or dj?

Either way I would say the CH. That is always my favorite and people really enjoy the mingling and the food & drinks.

We add an extra hour on to our wedding and it was the best decision we did.
