Send Invite to Priest/Rabbi/etc.???

My priest is married, and when we went to discuss our vows and the ceremony, he told his wife that he liked us and to make sure the day was open because 'it looks like we're going to hang out at this one'!!! So, is it the proper thing to do either way to invite the officiant? TIA!

Re: Send Invite to Priest/Rabbi/etc.???

I think it is, especially if you know him. I'm inviting my Priest, I really want him to come to the reception but I'm not sure if he will.

are you actually sending a real invite or just extending the invite by word of mouth?

Re: Send Invite to Priest/Rabbi/etc.???

From what I've heard, proper etiquette dictates that you invite the officiant to your reception. Depending upon on how close you are with him/her may factor in to whether or not they come. I have seen some come for the cocktail hour and then leave, I've seen some stay for the entire event (this is usually when they know or the bride or groom or family well). I would say the vast majority decline as they are busy people, but it is proper etiquette to send a formal invitaiton.

Re: Send Invite to Priest/Rabbi/etc.???

i think it is proper to send a format invite to your officiant. they may or may not come, but at least they were invited. i am getting married by a deacon and my FH and i have gotten to know him and his wife pretty well since FH is going to adult religious ed every week to receive his sacraments for the wedding. so we will def invite them!!
