Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

Okay, this probably sounds weird, but I was talking to a girl at work today who is already married and she was saying that she had to buy her own knife to cut her wedding cake. I don't know if this is a standard thing, or she just wanted a souvenir. Are any of you buying a knife to cut your cake or is your hall just supplying you one? Told you it was a weird question.

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

not a weird question at all!
We actually received a lenox cake cutting knife for an engagement gift, so that's what we will be using!
You can do whatever you want!!! You may receive a cake cutting knife at your shower, you never know!!

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

Well I emailed my BM about the whole knife thing (if you girls remember he was very rude to my family last week and I was very upset about it) and he told me that he would like to buy me my knife, which I thought was a nice gesture considering what happened last week.

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

Yes that is a very nice gesture after what they put you through (I read your post about that whole thing)! It's nice to have your own cake cutting knife for a memory!

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

One of my BM's got us an engraved set with our wedding date for our engagement party and we got another set of Lenox cake cutters...I'll guess we'll have to decide.

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

love the vera wang!

I believe that the caterer provides you with a knife, but I will have one on my registry - or my mom will buy me one that I want engraved. its up to you whether you want one to keep as a memory. ..

I did not want the one that the caterer provides. I wanted the Vera Wang server set as well as I did purchase the matching toasting flutes. I am hoping that someday when I do have kids I could pass it along to them.

your hall will provide one, but if you want a fancier one to keep, you provide it.

That's a nice gesture after what happened!

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

The lenox outlet in Riverhead has some really beautiful things - and they're about half the price of regular retail

Re: Weird Question - Knife to cut cake

The hall provides one, but you will probably get one as a gift before the wedding. My aunt actually got us a cake knife and a special fork and plate by waterford. The plate is really pretty, but the fork is weird looking, and I've never heard of a 'special fork' for the ceremony...has anyone else?
