Purpose of putting band member names on contract?

I thought if you put a band members name on a contract they would be liable unless you actually had that member play at your wedding. But I saw a showcase tonight where the guy said the band leader is trying to make the members sign a separate contract with the band so that they would be fined by the band if they didnt follow through....so my question is what is the difference then if I put the band members name on my contract?? Will the band have to give me money back or something after my wedding if that happens? Sounds to me like even with the band members name on the contract there is little guarantee I will get those band members.

As a lawyer I'll say that if you put the names on the contract, you should probably also state what the remedy would be if a specific member didn't show up. But as a bride, I did not bother to do that and everything was fine. We listed names of members but that is all.

Of course it is important to have the contract written the way you want. but you hope to never have to take action to enforce something. That's why I say that the gut reaction from a vendor is most important!

I'm not sure I understand what this band leader told you, though. I think he is just saying that he wants to be able to go after members who leave??
