Changing Dress for Reception?

Hi - has anyone ever been to a wedding where the bride changed into a different dress for her reception or are there any brides here who are doing that for their own wedding? If so, what kind of dress did they/you get?

Thanks!

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

i'm going to change into a traditional chinese dress during our reception, but most likely that won't happen until the last hour since i want to wear my gown for as long as possible...

most chinese weddings have the bride changing dresses 4-5 times during the evening!

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

I'm considering changing dresses as well. I think since you're spending the money on the photographers, might as well get pictures of you not just in the wedding dress. :)

If you got a big and elaborate wedding dress, it's also nice to be able to change into something more comfortable - easier to walk around and dance in. :)

White dress & eating also equal accidents. Better to have an accident on a dress that's less expensive to clean! :)

Go for it!

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

I love my dress and want to stay in it for as long as possible, but there are some valid points as to why having a second gown is a good idea. If it's something you want to do, then go for it. I don't think it's that uncommon.

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

I can see why you would change into another dress after the reception if you're having an after party but I don't know if I'll be able to do that. When will I ever be able to wear my wedding dress again. I think I'm just to sentimental to just take it off like it's any old dress.

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

Thanks everyone! You all do make some very valid points. I'm looking into changing dresses because I may have to. Where we booked our reception is a one-wedding-at-a-time venue and, if they end up booking a wedding reception in the main ballroom, then I'm not supposed to wear my gown. When we changed our wedding plans, we did so in a way where we are just having a dinner reception (cocktail hour is going to be at our ceremony site). I'm going to look and see what kind of dresses I can find. Where does one FIND a second gown?

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

try J Crew

$285 silk dress

$295 silk dress

ETA: you could also find a bridesmaid dress style that you like and order it in the same color as your dress for a cheaper alternative and get in in something completely different than your girls

Re: Changing Dress for Reception?

My sister changed dresses for the after party back at the OOT guest hotel.

IMO, changing dresses, unless it is tradition, makes the picutres look like the y came from different weddings (as in first marriage, second marriage kind of thing). But, that's JMO.
