Confused... NWR... Job Related

So I am confused...

As you all know I hate my job... Well hated...

So I went to Calvin Klein last week, and I am suppose to meet with them again next week...

But now I am confused about the place where I am at now...

They offered me to pretty much run the division myself since my Boss is leaving... and I would get a HUGE promotion and HUGE raise...

MUCH MORE MONEY then I was even going to get at Calvin Klein...

But to me its not always about the money... like it would make a lot of things easier... but...

I don't know if I will have enough staff or a good enough staff... to run a division that is a LOT of responsibility...

Maybe I am just nervous to take on that responsibility...

I just don't' know what to do...

Of course my Mother, and FH say to stay that it is like a no brainier b/c of the money but... I just don't know. I am kinda nervous.

Re: Confused... NWR... Job Related

I admire you for being honest and not following the money. If it were me...I'd probably stay and do have more money. But there's a couple options you should look at.

First off, if you go to Calvin Klein...Does it seem like a happier work place or a work place you'd rather be? Second, so you may not make as much money as you would as the promotion in your current job, but is there opportunity for advancement at Calvin Klein..that being said could the advancement be in a reasonable amount of time and then eventually end up making more in the long run anways that you would where you are now?

Second, Nay Nay you are highly capable of running anything. I don't know you from Adam, but I know you from what you post and we FM, and it is very obvious that you are a driven, mature, focused, and professional young lady...(well..most of the time,, unless Peggy comes around ) I think you are cutting yourself short. You may not have the staff right now that you want or you think that could do the job. But you can retrain, rehire, fire, YOU ARE IN CHARGE SISTER. And I bet you just might be scared or apprehensive to. But if you are at that position, I bet you can turn that office around and move mountains girlfriend! Don't ever cut yourself short...the world is at your fingertips..you are woman..hear you roar

Third and most importantly...you need to choose the job that will most likely hire me in the future. When I move to NY, I'm gonna need a jobby job. Now my degree might be in political science and I might be a dork...but I am one flippin fashion diva...and would make for a cute administrative assistant to a one Nay Nay McBadA .. so that being said...

Use your head...Sometimes people say follow your heart, some people say follow your head, use your mind...I say do both and it will all work out for ya.......

Your Future Assistant, Nina

Re: Confused... NWR... Job Related

I was in the same bost a few years ago and I should of ask myself this question, What job do you see yourself working at 10 or 20 years from now?
If I ask my self that question I don't think I would be working where I am right now.

good luck

Re: Confused... NWR... Job Related

well IMHO, you need to think about if your scared of the responsibility or if its just something you dont want to do...if a big reason why you hated your job was your boss and money then those 2 reasons are gone...all thats left is your decision (i dont know if those are the reasons im just saying)
In the same token money isnt everything and if you just dont like the place your at now then maybe change is needed....
i just got a new job started today, making a bit more money...now my old job is begging for me to stay offering a promotion in the near future which would mean more money...i know what you are going through! i HATED my old job, now starting smtg so new i miss my old job, so its hard...just take the weekend to really think about what would make YOU happy...
good luck!!

Re: Confused... NWR... Job Related

Thanks Girls... You know at first I was really apprehensive about posting such a personal thing here... but I knew that you girls all have different backgrounds and would give me outstanding advice!

My main concern about being nervous is my staff. I had 4 ppl working under me in my position now... but then we had layoffs.... and now I only have 2... I know I need 2 more ppl to get this division done, but I don't know if I am going to be able to get them... They tell me now 'yes, you will have more staff', but I am just nervous they are going to come around and be like... 'Sorry we only have enough money in the budget to hire 1 more person for you' then its just back to me being overworked.

Honestly, I don't know what my future would be like at Calvin Klein... I was actually going for a lower position that I have now at my company... but they were offering more money... Right now at Guess I am a Design Manager, and at Calvin Klein I was going to be an Associate Designer, I know it wasn't much a difference but I don't know if I am taking 2 steps back... but sometimes thats what it takes... Who knows.

Thank you girls for all your opinions... Which makes me think about all my options.

Thanks again!

Hey now!!!! You know you love the 'unprofessionalism' that we are!!!

NayNAy I agree with Miss Nina on this one. It isnt always about the money but this is a good opportunity for you. You will advance your career and youll be in charge-which in essence means exactly what Nina said-fire, hire, etc. You are allowed to be nervous and worried about what is being handed to you but I think that youwill be just fine in the end.

Re: Confused... NWR... Job Related

You are just nervous because its a whole new beginning for you, if this is what you want to do and this is what you are leaving to go to Calvin Klein for then it can't hurt to take a lead role looks good on your resume......Unless you are leaving because of a bad working environment then I would say go to Calvin Klein its not always about money you have to be happy and comfortable where you work......As for the staff well I'm interested so keep me in mind.

Good Luck Renee and I know you will do fine, I wouldn't mind a boss like you and I'm sure your staff will feel the same way.
