Can someone tell me
What is a groom's cake? When do you have one of these - is it at the reception? The only time I remember hearing about a groom's cake was in the Steel Magnolia's movie. I don't ever remember an wedding with one.

Re: Can someone tell me
Hahahaha...that is one of my favorite movies! From what I understand it's for all the single ladies to take home and sleep with under their pillow (not literally) and let them dream about the man they are to one day marry! Sweet isn't it! That probably soesn't explain too well why it's called a grooms cake huh?!?!

Groom's cake is a special cake you have at the rehearsal dinner generally. You can make it any theme, and it's for your FH. So you can make it whatever he likes. Here's one I'm thinking of having made for my FH since he loves fish.
This cake is great! Grooms cake seems to be a big thing on here. I would like to get one for the wedding. Maybe a Firetruck cake. Have to see how funds go.

Re: Can someone tell me
From what I have learned/heard in the past...It was actually used at the wedding and is a Southern Tradition. Here's an article I found on it...
Traditionally, a groom’s cake was sliced and boxed for the unmarried girls attending the wedding to take home and place under their pillows in hopes that the man they dreamed of would be their future husband. Groom’s Cake has come along way since then. Today the cake is meant to be a reflection of the groom’s interests, whether it be one of his hobbies, favorite sport, alma mater, profession, etc..
It’s a personal choice when to serve the cake - either at the rehearsal dinner, as an alternate dessert with the wedding cake, or as a late night dessert for the wedding party. Just because primarily groom cakes tend to be a fruit cake or a chocolate cake shouldn’t dictate what the bride and groom should have. Obviously being named “Groom’s Cake” it should be a flavor and theme that the groom enjoys. The following are some examples of how that was achieved:
