Southbeach Diet

Has anyone been on this diet? My mom is starting it and I'm possibly considering it. I don't know if I could do no carbs for 2 weeks, I live on carbs

Re: Southbeach Diet

I've only had success with the South Beach Diet. I highly recm'd it b/c it worked for me. Some folks just can't do it - but motivation is a huge factor.

Phase I doesn't allow carbs, but Phase II slowly introduces the 'good carbs.'

Whenever I want to shed 10 pounds quickly (2-3 weeks) I always turn back to Phase I. It was a lifestyle change for me as well.

Re: Southbeach Diet

It is so hard!!!! But the results are well worth it! I kept cheating for the first week, but then I did it, and wow what a difference! You can definitely do it, just put your mind to it. What got me through it was after that week of cheating I said to myself I could have had that week over with and only 1 more left, but instead I had 2 weeks left. Actually I did it for 4 weeks, but the last 2 weeks I added a SMALL carb to 1 of my meals (usually breakfast). Good Luck and please keep us posted!

Re: Southbeach Diet

i have a question about SB, i know a lot of you think it works well, but I was wondering if you have to have a significant amount of weight to lose (e.g., 20+ lbs) for it to be super effective like the promos claim, 14 lbs in 2 weeks.... just wondering b/c it never does the wonders for me...

Re: Southbeach Diet

I did the Southbeach diet my senior year in college and it was definitely hard, but I lost about 10-15 pounds in about 2 months. But once I went off, it of course came back. I love my carbs and could not do it. Even in the first stage you can't have fruit because of the carbs. I think it depends on what foods you like, cause it's definitely hard. Good luck!

When I went on the diet I was 145lbs, and when I went off the diet 4 weeks later I was 128lbs. After I went back to eating carbs I only gained 3 pounds (because I really watched what carbs I ate) which I then worked off and lost.

For the first two weeks, you have to stick to the diet exactly how it is. Fruits have sugars (good ones) and that's why it probably did not work.

Re: Southbeach Diet

It works for some, but not me. I followed it strictly for about 5 weeks and lost NOTHING. I also felt tired esp. in first two weeks with no carbs at all...it was hard to keep up my work outs since I had no energy.

If you cut out the fruit and stick to the diet, you will definitely lose the weight. I am not saying you will definitely lose the 12 lbs in 2 weeks, but you will lose a good amount of weight!

I basically weighed the same as you when I was trying it and didn't eat as well as you appear to be eating. I stuck to it completely for over a month, no cheating at all, and nothing came off and I didn't notice my clothes feeling different...not saying it definitely won't work, wouldn't hurt to try! I had more luck just uping my exercise while eating all kinds of carbs!

I'm doing SB. I did it last spring as well. Last spring was my first time - I lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks. Ended up losing about 12 - but I was on the diet for a long time and expected to lose more. I'm doing it again now, and I lost 5 1/2 pounds the first two weeks. Have lost about 7-8 total, have been doing it for almost a month. I've been pretty good about cheating (only had one bad night) and I've been working out (which I didn't before) and my results are less than before. This of course disappointed me and prompted some research. There's a SB diet chat board, the Dr. himself occasionally chats on it, and it's clear from all the information I've gained from reading that not everyone loses a lot the first two weeks (which is not the weight loss phase, it's really more of a purifying phase) and that it depends on what your eating habits used to be like, how much you have to lose, how much water you retain - a lot of what you lose is water retention and when you start putting carbs back in, it's not unusual to gain some back at first, only to lose it again, but more slowly (this happened to me both times). SB is really meant to be a lifestyle change towards eating good carbs and good fats. You will likely gain the weight back if you don't adopt the SB lifestyle, which is not a no-carb lifestyle. That's only the first two weeks and you do it to regulate your blood sugar and control cravings, not to lose weight. I sincerely hope this works for you - but I don't want you to get your hopes up either as a result of the hype. If you want to learn more about the diet, I have found this website to be helpful: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/index.php

good luck!

Re: Southbeach Diet

I have done the south beach diet for awhile now. In total I lost about 20-25 pounds but have a few more to go before the wedding. My goal is to hit it by September when I am in my Cousin's wedding.

As hard as the South Beach Diet is - alot is based on motivation and your determination to stick with it. When I first started it - it took me three tries to get through a week of Phase One. If you can't do without ANY carbs for two weeks, do it for a week at first - then go onto Phase 2 for a week or two - then try Phase One again. It's well worth it in the end!

Oh - and they suggest online that Pilates is the best workout to do with it...I COMPLETELY AGREE!!
