Get this! My FH was a victim of identity theft! WARNING!

His checking account was missing $$... turns out, someone charged over $500.00 on his DEBIT card (which he has in his wallet) to a Target in Georgia and almost $100 to a Blockbuster in GA! The bank says a few people have been coming into them with this problem, and they say it might be an inside job from someone who works for Target! We had just gone to the Westbury store the week before and he used his card there, so I don't know if it's an employee there or one in corporate somewhere. Yikes! Thank God the bank is putting all the $$ back within 24 hours and changing all his info. Be careful... and check your account (especially if you've been to Target lately!)

Oh sh!t. Thanks for the warning. I love Target, but I also like the money in my acct. Their pros at rembering your card #. It's amazing how sly some people are.

Yikes! My dad was a victim of identiy theft a few years back. Someone got hold of his amex # and was charging thousands and thousands of dollars in EUROPE!!

Oh boy I used my debit card the other day at Target. What bank is FH with, you can FM me if you don't want to post it on here.

Also, I would suggest doublechecking your credit card receipts to make sure your credit card number is not all printed out. Sometimes, some vendors print all 16 numbers on your receipts instead of just the last 4 digits.

I always make it a habit to cross out the first 12 #s on the receipts before giving it back to them (it's in the database record once they swipe the card anyway). :)

i think i check all my accts (chking and savings) online like 3-4 times a day i'm so afraid of identity theft!

wow! thats horrible!!
that happened to my DH a few years ago right before we were going on a trip....he went to check his account and get some cash out and found out that all this money had been taken out, and all these charges made....
luckliy, we live in NJ, and the charges were from somewhere in upstate NY at the same time he had made a transaction, so their was no problem proving that the transactinos were theft....

Something similiar happened to my mom recently... someone was taking money from her checking out to pay their verizon wireless bill. She thinks someone stole her checking statements which had the cancelled checks... She didn't have a debit card with that acct and it happened right after her mail got stolen. So be careful about your mailboxes too!

Yikes. Thanks for the warning. FH and I live right by the Target in Westbury so we're there all the time. I'm never using my debit card there again!

That is terrible!!! FH and I just combined bank accounts and we decided to not use our debit card if we could help it, just cash...you hear too much about this lately.
