What was it like the 1st time you met FH's parents?

For me--it was overwhelming. I wound up meeting just about the whole family--his six younger siblings, mom, dad, and step-mom and they were all wanting my attention! The first meetings went okay--but then...well you know how in-laws can be sometimes!

it was at about 1am in the morning his sister had been in a car accident and we had been out and rushed to the hospital. Yet when I met them I felt like I already knew them. FMIL gave me a big hug.

I knew them before FH and I were an 'item' , so it was easy!

I knew my FH's father since he was in the fire department with us. I meet my FH's mom when FH's father passed away. It was not the best time.

i was nervous but his mom is great!! i reecently met his dad alittle nervous as well

It was great and they made me feel so comfortable!!! I liked them soo much right from the beginning!

It was so awkward. We walked in, and at first they were polite. Then his parents started speaking to him in a different language, and started screaming at him. We left right away, and afterwards he told me they were upset because he wanted to marry me. They told him that if he wanted to be a part of that family he could not marry a white woman. He hasn't spoken to them since. Not as happy a story as everyone else's! I wish it was.

It was a little strange, we weren't supposed to meet when we did. My FH was bartending and told me to stop by that night and they came in after dinner. It was nice at least they had a few more couples with them so they kind of broke the ice a bit.

sorry to hear that! while my 1st meeting with FIL's was nice...my FFIL & his GF (aka-FH's 'step-mom') hate my guts! so i can relate a little bit. i hope his family comes around!

No. They refuse to acknowledge our relationship unless I convert, which I will not do.

I went to sunday dinner which is not a typical (his anut, uncle, cusins, FIL's ans FSIL.) i was definatly on trial.. (scored point by bringing pinolli(SP)cookies from bklyn)but i love them all anyway :O)

We got along right from the start. His parents are very reserved and calm, and I'm very bubbly and very much the extrovert. Anyway, they are very catholic, and I was afraid that they wouldn't like me and think I was a wild girl if they found out I had tattoos. Needless to say I hid them for a while, and as we got closer I finally wore a short sleeve shirt. Nothing was said, and I was still accepted with open arms.

well they are divorced.....so i met the father in a quick in and out.....and mother and stepfather at a sunday dinner.....they were very warm and welcoming!

I met his mother and mothers boyfriend. his father passed when he was young.

He met my parents and fit instantly.

My parents are totally laid back and love him

even in the engagement congrats card they called him their future son!!!

his parents and mine will meet in april :)

I met them when we were friends and I went to his house one night with a group of friends.

I met them at their house for my Fh's bday party! along with his sister and her husband and both his grandmothers! I was so nervous.. especially to meet his dad cause everyone says he reminds them of Tony Saprano! Needless to say.. I loved them.. and his father is the best FFIL I can ask for! I am extremely close with his parents and call them both mom and dad now (they asked me to) and my parents think its great and love my FH too! I lucked out!

It was a bit overwhelming, I met basically his entire family at a 4th of July BBQ at his grandparents house, so it was his parents, grandparents, about 6 cousins, 5 sets of aunts and uncles, family friends, etc...it was a good time but then tried to introduce themselves to me in waves.
