Work Related Question
Okay, so a few weeks back, a open posting came out for a cushy position that pays about six grades higher than what I'm making. A co-worker (friend) mentioned the position (along with a few others) but this one worker was very enthusiatic and excited about the position. I have a sort of loyalty policy thing with my friends (especially ones that I respect highly) and I know how much she hates her current position, so I didn't look into it. After a few days, I was like 'Why not?? I work hard too and need a change' so I applied but asked the hiring manager if he could please not disclose my application to anyone. Well, he did and now co-worker friend is upset/mad at me because she feels I should have said something. I didn't want her to think I was stealing her thunder or competing or whatever. Plus, it was a very personal decision to apply and I didn't want to spread it around. I also know that there is a candidate in the pool that is waaayy more qualified than either of us, so it's more like I wanted to explore other opportunities within the organization. I feel like anything I did with regard to this friend was going to get me into hot water. If I told her of my intentions, she would have been uncomfortable and the fact that I didn't tell her didn't work in my favor. I can't win for trying

Re: Work Related Question
Well, there are a few scenarios...1. If she gets it and you don't - then hopefully she'll be so happy, she'll forget!
2. If neither one gets it, then hopefully she won't hold a grudge
3. If you get it and she doesn't...well, hopefully you'll be sitting somewhere else!
Seriously, though, I'm sure she'll get over it with some time. I think most people understand taht when it comes to jobs - well, it's really hard to be loyal when you're trying to support yourself and your family.
Good luck!

I agree completely. I hope her anger passes. Good luck!
