Engagement Party

Hi Everyone! I just booked my wedding for May 2007 at Lands End. I am so excited! So now that hard part is over, I figured I would back track a little. Is everyone having an engagement party? I feel like I hear more and more that people are not having the engagement party so I am just curious to what everyone is doing.

i had one - it was Sunday

It really depends on you and your FH - and both families. Originally, me and FH didnt want one ... but then after talking to our parents, they both told us to have one .. just so we could have a head start on gifts ... and my mom didnt feel it was right if I didnt have one, since my sister and brother had one after they were engaged.

We were on the fence for a few months about this... We are having a very casual affair, @ FIl's home in the spring, just more of a mingeling thing

Ours is this weekend on Saturday (http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic-293997-1.html) for our friends and his parents are organizing one in the summer for mostly family & relatives.

FH & I decided not to have one because we feel like it would be too much of a strain (financially) on my parents. they're contributing about 30% to this wedding so i didn't want to add the expense of an engagement party as well.

I'm getting married 12/29/07 and we had our engagement party this January (we got engaged in November) It was a lot of fun- we rented a hall and our parents cooked everything. It was so much fun!!

Not doign one... didn't want to appear greedy for gifts as I will be receiving gifts at my shower and my wedding. FH and I want to throw a little something with us, our BP and friends once the weather gets a little nicer... and let them know they dont have to bring gifts.

Yeah, another date twin!!
I'm definitely thinking we are going to have a small, casual engagement party when the weather gets nice. Probably at our house.
It will be nice for some of our family to meet other than just at the wedding.
Oh and the extra gifts definitely don't hurt. I don't mind a bit if people think we are beggin for more gifts!!!

we are considering an engagement party as well...something very casual in our backyard in june... i want to have a luau...it s a good way for our familes to meet and get to know each other....and for us to get more gifts!!

We had our e-party last week and I am so happy we had one. Everyone had a great time and both sides of the family got to meet everyone, It went really well. .

We're prob. going to have one this summer, because my mom really wants to us to. Neither of my sisters did because their engagements were about a year long. We're more like a year and a half, and my mom wants us to have one this summer. I'm looking forward to having everyone together!

Congrats on booking Lands End. I went looking there, its beautiful. I'm also a Lovin Oven bride!
