video/photographer
Is it better to have the same company do both the video and photos or is it better to have to separate companies who specialize in either photo or video? Any good/bad experiences?

Me too!! Generally they say you should get both fromt eh same company becuase they will work better together than two different companies. Sometimes you amy have an issue if the Photog and Video guy arent working well together. However, this doesnt happen all the time and you might have no issues by using two different conmpanies.
If you have a photog company who doesnt do video and vice versa for the video guy, there also might not be a problem.

I've had both and I totally think it's 100% better to have them be the same company. They work perfectly together.

I used the same company for both, Bliss, and I loved them! They worked so well together.

We are using two different companies. I loved the video we saw from Classic Video so we went with them - and got two cameras...We haven't decided on the Photographer yet

Re: video/photographer
I feel that it does not matter either way. If you go with a reparable Photographer and Video, they will work together. If they both do work on LI, I am sure 99% of them have worked together at one time or another with each other. Is it easier to book at the same place? I am sure it is, but don't feel that you are obligated to do so if you like there style of one and not the other.

That's your opinion and I respect that but I've seen first hand where they didn't work together as well as using the same company.

Re: video/photographer
We decided to go w/ photo & video from one place. We had initially planned on getting video separate, but once we met Bob from Velvet Studios we went for both. I think it's really who you feel comfortable with because they are going to be with you the WHOLE DAY!

Re: video/photographer
Ultimately it's up to you. For us, we had the Videographer and Photographer both from Patken and were very happy with our choice. The two guys got along so well and really helped each other with the shots and poses. DH commented on their interaction when we were in the limo - he was impressed by they way they worked together. Plus it was a lot of fun since everyone was so friendly and not competing. JMO

If it's not the same company, make sure they at least like each other.

Re: video/photographer
The various schools of thought are:If you use the same company for both, they know each other and work well together. On the other hand, because they are from the same company there is no incentive (other than professionalism) for both to do their best work.
If you use two different companies, you have friendly competition, and get the best prodcut from both. On the other hand, if there is anything less than professionalism going on, they will get in one another's way, and your photos will show your video guy, and your video will show your photo guy.
I specifically asked these questions when I interviewed photographers that offered both. The photographer that told me he didn't care and would be a professional throughout my day earned big points with me.

Re: video/photographer
I went with Imagine Studios which is a husband and wife team- she does the photos, he does the video. Since they are working so closely together to get those great shots, I am happy they're coming from the same place. They're travelling together, setting things up together, capturing moments together, and I only have to go to one place to look at edits and get my proofs. This way they can capture the feel I want without me having to explain it twice.

Re: video/photographer
I think its better to have two separate companies just because I think its difficult finding a company that is an expert in both fields. I would rather get an excellent photographer and an excellent videographer. That being said I'm not doing a video because I'm spending so much on a photographer. So that is also something you may want to consider.

Re: video/photographer
We went separate. We didn't really like the vidteo from our photographer, but loved their photos. We asked the videographer if he had worked with the photographer and he said he had many times and that they were all really nice guys. I don't think we'll have any issues. With separate companies, you might also get two different perspectives.

Same here-though we separated also because of price. We go a better deal on video elsewhere. If they are professional, they should be able to work together.
