reception

we just got engaged (yeah) and we're looking to get married soon. we were thinking about trying to pull it off for this October (wishful thinking...i'm not sure??). if not, we were thinking of April or May 2007.

does anyone have a good suggestion for a reception hall? any help would be appreciated because i have no idea where to start!

Re: reception

that would help

we're pretty flexible. in terms of location, we'd like something in Nassau or western Suffolk. we're getting married in East Meadow and don't want people to travel too far.

we'd like to be the only wedding there and are pretty causal in general. i love the outdoors, so would like something scenic.

in terms of price, we're just starting out, but would like the best deal possible.

Re: reception

Take a look at the Riveria in Massapequa. My sister had her reception there and it was great.

That's what you should do. You need to narrow down your choices according to what you want, get a few frontrunners and go see them.

Re: reception

The Riviera is gorgeous. I got married there. One wedding at a time, it's on the water in Massapequa. Very scenic location and reasonable prices. The hall has a big, beautiful mohagany bar, the bridal room upstairs is beautiful, it has doors that open up to a balcony. You have to see it, describing it doesn't do it justice. Good luck!

Re: reception

Congrats wedding date twin . Try the Swan Club, my older sister had her wedding there. It was so beautiful. Good luck with your planning, one of FH and I friend's just got engaged last month and is planning a wedding for this Sept.

Start looking for a gown and BM dresses now. Advice: Besure to breathe and stay calm.

Re: reception

Congratulations!!!!!! I would just start calling all the different catering halls in the phone book and see who has the dates available and go from there. I'm sure there are places still available out there.

Re: reception

Chateau La Mer

Very affordable
Gorgeous water views from every room
Outdoor cocktail hour on the water
Can get married in a gazebo on the water

Best food and service around.

I had 150 people and it was the perfect size! Check out my review for a movie and pics.

Re: reception

in october i think Woodlands or North Ritz would be nice or Harrison House or DeSeversky. Something with a lot of foliage you know? You can even do metropolitan and take pictures at a park near there.

Re: reception

I think that you can definitely pull off on October wedding! You will have to call around to different places to see how has availability (I think that is going to be your hardest part), but then once you get the place booked, everything else will go with the flow. Good Luck & congrats on your new engagement!!!

some places that I know of off hand that do one event at a time (they all happen to be on the water too):

Chateau La Mer
Riveria
Bridgeview Yacht Club
The Cresent Beach Club

Re: reception

Again, you need to know how many guests you will have. That's really your starting point.

You don't want to be stuck on a 150 guest min. catering hall if you only have 100. That's just an example but you get the point. Unless you can afford paying for the extra meals that nobody will eat and you must have that hall.

So, find out how many people you want to invite then you can call around all the places the girls are mentioning.

Otherwise, you are going to go into circles and waste your time. They are going to ask you anyway.

The 'planning' tool above will help you screen the places for your number of guests.

Re: reception

Thank you so much. We took your advice and worked on a guest list. It looks like between 225-250 invites (although I heard you assume a certain percentage won't attend). I can't believe how quickly the numbers added up.

I appreciate your suggestions..
