Girls who did the garter toss at their wedding...

Did the guy actually put the garter on the girl who caught the bo-K? Or did you do something different? I just don't know how many of my single friends are going to want a total stranger to put a garter on them. Could we just have the two 'winners' dance together and then have everyone else join in?

I think you can put your own spin on this depending on who catches the BO-K and garter. I want to have a 'set-up' where I throw the Bo-K to my cousin and FH throws the garter to her boyfriend. This all together avoids any awkward situations

I caught the Bo-K at my friend's wedding. It was the first wedding I had ever been to and I didn't know that the guy who caught the garter had to place it on the girl who caught the Bo-K. I was not happy. Now I don't get up to catch the Bo-K.

My FH is gonna sit in the place of the girl that catches the BOK after the catcher of the garter's eyes are covered They will be so surprised to see FH's big hairy leg when the blindfold is removed

i went to a wedding once where the bf of the girl who caught the bok thought the guy who caught the garter was getting too frisky with her and they started a fight. it was really awkward and i felt so bad for the bride and groom.

This is what we do at our parties.. but it's the Best man instead of the groom.

Exactly! That is why I want to have something pre-arranged, to avoid this. Good point!

You can do whatever you like to but we had the guy put it on the girl. They were both okay with it.

I think I like the idea of having the guy and girl dance together and then have everyone join in. We can have the dj announce that the garter/bo-K toss is a little different, and explain it so that the girls who have previous bad experiences won't be put off by the garter toss

We didn't have them do anything - I was too scared of the female/male combo (like my 16 year old cousin and DH's 30 year old friend). Turns out, a couple who is talking about getting married caught everything. Oh well!

So you did both tosses but just had them keep the bo-k and garter and nothing else? That's an interesting idea.

We did the girl who caught the BoK and the guy who caught the garter danced together. My only advice...if you do that, make sure you pick a song and tell the band the song beforehand (we forgot and the bandleader was running around to ask me what they should play.)

It went over really well and a lot of people went out to catch both the BoK and the garter.

I would suggest the man puts the garder on the girl however if she doesn't feel comfortable, I would let her put on herself. I'm sure it wont' be a big deal. Times have changed. If my FSIL caught the bo-k I doubt my FILs would be happy if some man put a garder on their 16 yr old girl. I would simply let her put it on. I'm sure no one would even care.

Ugh thats horrible! Thats why I'm laying a rule down. If you feel your date will be offended with you dancing with someone else and having someone touching them on the leg to put a garder on, don't go up.

I caught it at my friends' wedding & she gave me the bo-k & then I had to just dance w/ the guy (her BIL) that caught the garter, no big deal.

I like the idea of a dance. Or just catching them and sitting down. I definately don't want any jealousy lingering at my wedding.

I'm not into the whole 'set up.' It's supposed to be fun and humerous. JMO. You can blind fold the man who catches the garter and have the groom sit on the chair and do something funny like this. Have fun with it!

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's just for fun. It's not like the guy who catches the garter is out to maul the girl who catches the bo-k. I wouldn't worry. Sure there are those isolated incidents, but it's all in good fun and it lasts like a minute.
