The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

My fiance and I are torn between these two places. We love the elegance, food and service offered at both. Our concerns are the cocktail hour area at Carlyle and the reception room at the Woodlands. We are have a little over 200 guests and we don't know which place would be best. We are looking for the date in June/July 2007.

I was hoping that I can get some honest and upfront feedback about these places. It seemed as though the Woodlands was more accommodating but one never knows.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

I have never been to the Carlyle but, I've been to a wedding at the Woodlands that had about 215-225 guests and it was great!

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

Hi...I've been to weddings at both places. Was in the wedding party at the one at Woodlands.
I also looked at Carlyle for my own wedding.
Here are my thoughts...but realize this is just my opinion...

Service was fabulous at both - food also.
My FI nixed the Carlyle for us b/c of the cocktail hour set up. He likes a cocktail hour all in one room which is very hard esp when you have a large amt of guests. He just hated that a lot of it was set up in the hallway...and then that back room that at the wedding we were at there...no one even knew that room existed. Also - the main room just outside the reception room...where the big bar is...my FI said he hates standing in a long line at a wedding for a drink...could they set up extra bars or have more bartenders...the guy sort of laughed at us and said there would be 2 or 3 and we told him that we didn't feel that was enough for 250 guests and that we waited in very long lines at a wedding we attended there...and he didn't offer anything to accomodate our request on that. We just weren't thrilled with the set up there for a wedding with 250+ guests.

Now onto the Woodlands....if I were choosing between the 2 I personally would go with the Woodlands. The cocktail hour does go into a few different rooms but they are all connected...nothing is in a hallway or back room. It all flows together very nicely. And the reception rooms holds a lot of people as well...there were bet. 225 - 250 at the wedding I was at there.

Those are just my thoughts....I did love both weddings so I am not trying to offend anyone who is having their wedding at either place...both are really beautiful and the food and service at both are amazing. My FI and I are just very picky about room set ups.

Good luck!

Although I am just remembering the vienesse at Carlyle which was all in the room with the big bar and it was unbelievable...the entire place smelled like freshly baked choc chip cookies! Best dessert set up I have ever seen if you are into that.
I have a lot of pics from both weddings if you want in Kodak Gallery - FM me and I can send to you.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

Thank you so much for your honesty. I really really appreciate it. I feel the same way with the cocktail hour at Carlyle, as well as the service. They didn't seem to want to go the xtra mile. Anyway we stilll haven't decided and we are stilllooking around. I love the Woodlands, the banquet manager is a doll they will do almost anything, but of course the confusion lies with the reception room. I just don't want anyone to feel vey far away. Again thank you sooo very much.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

I've been to both places and I wouldn't even put them in the same category. Hands down, the Carlyle. I did not like the reception room at the Woodlands at all.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

See now, I think that the cocktail hour rooms are too small and set up very awkard. The service at both would be great though.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

HI.. I will let you know on 8-21-06 I will be getting married at the Woodlands I thought it was very pretty my FH was a little concerned about putting 200+ in that room for the cocktail hour but a friend of mine went to an affair last week she said that it was very comfortable. Also I did go to a wedding at the Caryle on the Green (now this is a few years back .. the food left a little to be desired. but you have to keep in mind i think that they have since then changed to new owners. Good luck .. I really did my homework with the Woodlands lets hope i did a good job .. I feel as If I did.. Mu FH is in the food bus. so we did get a few good tip offs .. Best of Luck to you...

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

I looked at both on the same day and I have to say that I thought Carlyle was in a completely different league altogether. The ballroom at the Carlyle is gorgeous, whereas the ballroom at the Woodlands was just okay. Also, I was concerned about the size of the dance floor at the Woodlands---it looked really small. I agree that the banquet manager at the Woodlands is amazing and seems like she would be great to work with, but I just think that the Carlyle is so much nicer than the Woodlands. Also, I said I was looking to have around 220 guests and they said that they could always set up some of the coctail hour outside, but that made me nervous----what if it rains?!!!

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

I am a Woodland's bride so i have to say that I am biased.
There is something about the Woodlands that I can't put my finger on - somrthing unique - not factory-like, that I haven't 'felt' at any other hall.

I enjoyed the wedding I attended at the Carlyle. I can't say anything bad about it; you just have to go w/ your gut!

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

The Woodlands underwent some major renovation, I love the coziness and old feel to it and the food is fantastic.

I've never been to the Carlyle, once we saw the Woodlands, we knew it was for us.

Re: The Woodlands Vs. Carlyle on the Green

We looked at the Carltun, Carlyle and the Woodlands and ended up picking the Woodlands very easily. Like someone said- it doesn't have that wedding factory feel. It's like being in someon'es home. We shared the same concerns that you have with the Carlyle (cocktail hour) and the Woodlands (the ballroom) but decided the Woodlands had more to offer. Guests who have been to weddings at the Woodlands have assured us that everyone isn't as far away as it seems. After all, you're seeing the rooms empty and not full of people. Plus the food at the Woodlands is incredible- so if that is a priority then I would recommend the Woodlands.

As far as the Carlyle goes- we know people who have had weddings there and absolutely loved it. I was disappointed because they seemed rushed, unfriendly, and not very accomodating when we talked to them- but that doesn't mean that the wedding there can't be fantastic.

I kind of felt the same way on my visit.
