Attending Cocktail Hour...need opinions

How do you feel about attending cocktail hour and mingling with your guests before you're announced as husband & wife at the dinner reception like I see most couples doing? Anyone doing that?

Attending Cocktail Hour...need opinions

I am going to attend my cocktail hour. It is just another part of the day to enjoy and I don't think it will take away from our grand entrance.

Attending Cocktail Hour...need opinions

Our ceremony & reception are at the same site. But we both want to attend the cocktail hour, since we really want to enjoy every aspect of the day and spend as much time with our loved ones as possible. So, we are having the pictures taken before the ceremony. I personally would go crazy sitting in another room or taking pictures during the cocktail hour.

We will be attending...I am too excited about the food!

We are looking forward to all the great cocktail hour food. I agree with july3bride it will not take away from your entrace at all. I don't think we will get to sit much, but I can manage to eat a little as I mingle.

We've spent too much time planning to miss out on any part of the day. We have some time between the cerrmony and the cocktail hour so we will take our pictures in between and then head to the cocktail hour.

Why should we miss out on all the good food? And it also gives youtime to mingle so you can have more fun dancing during the reception!!!

Absolutely!! If you don't go to your cocktail hour, you will be missing 20% of your wedding!! I never understood why people used to sit in another room during their cocktail hour. We may spend about 10 minutes alone right after our ceremony, but then we plan on going and celebrating our wedding with our guests! Good Luck

Cocktail Hour .

I am going to my cocktail hour but we get our own private room. Personally, I feel that if you make an appearance during the cocktail hour it does take away from your entrance. Just my opinion.

After much debate...

We have decided to attend. At first we thought we didn't want to take away from our 'grand entrance', but our entrance is 10 seconds, the cocktail hour is an entire hour. I don't want to miss a whole hour of fun just to have a few seconds of attention. After all, won't we get that special attention all day? Besides, I am having the coolest room for my cocktail hour and I want to be there (Europa at Chateau).

Attending Cocktail Hour

I wouldn`t miss it! Really the first time you are announced as husband and wife has happened already. I now pronounce you husband and wife. Done. Go to your cocktail hour and have a ball. I was in one wedding where the bridal party sat in our own room with the bride and groom. It was horrible. All I wanted was to escape and go join the cocktail hour! You don`t get food and drink like that everyday. Becky

Attending Cocktail Hour

We are going to attend our cocktail hour. To me, the moment the Priest announces us Husband and Wife is our official annoucement anyway.

We did ..

Our attendent had brought trays and plates of food down to the bridal suite from the cocktail hour for us, but we only nibbled on a couple of things, then went up and mixed and mingled. I`m disappointed we didn`t get to taste much of the food at the cocktail hour, but we had so much fun chatting with people during this time. It was perfect, because at the reception, we basically danced the whole night away! As for being announced as husband and wife for intros during the reception .. that`s just a great way to get the party started! Technically, you are announced as husband and wife during the ceremony! :) If you think you want to go to the cocktail hour, do it. Try not to leave yourself any opportunity for regrets.

Doing Both-Long

I have enough time to get the pictures done between the ceremony and the reception...but I have mixed feelings about attending and not attending...so I think we are going to do 50/50. I have been in bridal parties where I have done both and see good and bad in both. I'm going to stay in the room for a little with the bridal party to get to actually eat some of the food and party a little. Then go down and join everyone else ... Once we get the to cocktail hour, I know we will get bombarded with greeting guests. When my friend got married, she was kind of disappointed b/c she attended the cocktail hour and didn't really enjoy it like she thought she would. She barely got past the entrance of the cocktail hour room. I bought her and her husband a plate of food which I feed them and that was all they tasted the entire night! When I was in a bridal party and we stayed in the room the whole time, we had soooo much fun eating and partying together. I think it created some kind of camaraderie with the bridal party! But you are spending all of this money and all your friends and family are there, why do you want to stay in one little room for an hour! So hopefully I am able to do both! PS I do not think it takes away from the grand entrance if you join your cocktail hour!

We did too...

And I don't regret it at all. We got almost all of our greetings done there, AND got to see all the food we'd been talking about for a year and a half! : ) My bridal attendant and bridesmaids kept bringing me things to taste as I made my rounds, soI got to sample almost everything, which was my goal, as a Cocktail Hour-aholic!

What we are doing

We will not have a receiving line at the church, we will hopefully get to meet and greet our guest at the cocktail hour, this will ensure that we get to speak to all our guests. I have heard that it is hard trying to get to all the guest at the reception. I would prefer to meet and greet at the cocktail hour than at the recption. I want to party at the reception. Good luck and happy planning

For those of you taking pictures before the ceremony...

my mom and dad will be.. They live there can't kick em out! hehe.. Ps. I think my dad would love a hotel room for that morning! and my brother is an usher so he will be with the guys. But only my girls and my parents.. and since alot of my girls parents or guests will be driving them to my house so that the cars will end up at the reception and not out front my house were we will be taking pictures..
