Hawaii vs. Tahiti

You would think I was planning where to buy a home with the thought I put into this! We just can't seem to decide. Cost is not a factor b/c they will end up being about the same for us, we have a friend in the travel industry. Which would you choose and why? Tahiti looks so amazing, but Hawaii is also beautiful and looks like a blast. The whole thing is making my brain hurt

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

I vote Tahiti- I am going there for my HM too.

Hawaii is beautiful, but I love the shallow protected lagoons of Tahiti's islands. There are hardly any waves on the inside of the lagoons, as far as I can tell.

If cost is not a factor, I would go with Tahiti - It seems like more of a once in a life time trip. You can save Hawaii for an anniversary trip.

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

i don't think tahiti is as expensive as you think, if you compare it to hawaii that is.. you should price around first before making your decision.

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

We're going to Tahiti....because we figured we may not get the oportunity to go there ever again.

How long do you have for your honeymoon? I would say this depends on a lot. If you only have a week, then I would say go to Hawaii, but if you longer than a week....Tahiti here I come

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

i researched both and selected hawaii. Tahiti is absolutely gorgeous, no denying that, but from what i've seen, there's not much to do there and everything closes early.

Me & FH would go stir crazy if there was nothing to do at night, though as FFIL said, 'this IS your HM.' I just needed options -- in Hawaii you can lay around if you want, or you can do stuff.

But no matter what you select, you'll have a fantastic trip. You'll just definately need more than a week. It's going to be a loooong flight!

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

There is SO much to do in FP (on all the islands)... most people think all you do is lay around and swim in the lagoons, which is what I thought until we did research on it! We are actually trying to narrow down our excursions (we want to do all 20 of them) and it's so hard.

It's true there is no nightlife, but the daytime activities are unlike any other!

Does Hawaii have nightlife? If so that may be the deciding factor.

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

Hawaii has more options for nightlife, luau or live music or a random bar or club depending on which island you are on. I'm not a huge partier but for more than 10 days I may want to do something....

I agree completely. This is coming from a girl who grew up dreaming about my honeymoon in Hawaii someday. My parents went there on their honeymoon, so did both my sisters...then my sister and her husband went back for their 5 yr. Anniv with my parents for their 30th anniv. I just always dreamed of going there.

Then I got engaged and still...wanted to go to Hawaii. Until my FH started saying that everyone goes to Hawaii - let's go somewhere different and not be like everyone else! He said we could go to Hawaii at any time in our lives...that he definitely could see us being able to take a trip there sometime. He wanted to go somewhere further away for our honeymoon...a once in a lifetime trip that sadly we may never get back to. So I started looking at the FP post on this board and reading the girls itineraries and I started looking into it myself. What sealed the deal for me was a friend of a friend emailed me her pictures from her honeymoon in Tahiti. I was done. Thoughts of Hawaii quickly left my mind and I haven't thought about it since. I think Tahiti looks 10 times more amazing than Hawaii and I just cannot wait to be there and relax. And yes there is so much to do there. Personally we are not partiers esp on our vacations - we are so beat from the day's activities that we love to just relax after dinner and go to bed early. So if nightlife is a huge deal to you than yes - maybe you should consider Hawaii. But it's not a big deal to us at all - we are looking forward to being laid back and just relaxing and only doing activities when we feel like it. We felt there was almost too much to do in Hawaii - we'd feel obligated to do all of it if we were there. And we don't want to feel that way on our honeymoon. We just want to take it day by day and do whatever we please.

OK so enjoy whatever you choose......but my vote definitely goes to TAHITI!!!

Good Luck!!!
If you need a good TA, FM me. I priced a ton of itineraries with many different TA's and mine came in several hundred dollars lower than the others.

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

Tahiti is amazing - even though there's not much nightlife, there's plenty of different things to do during the day, and by the time the night came, we were too tired to go out anyways! We were totally on island time - sleep by 8 and wake up with the sun, and this is from someone who usually finds it difficult to get up in the morning.

Re: Hawaii vs. Tahiti

I'd suggest FP.

My FM and I are going because we want to go.. it really should come down to what you and your FM want to do and where to go...

To start.. visit a local travel agency and grab some brochures for both destinations... then, do detail research... sleep on it and decide.

However, if cost is a deciding factor..then...

I have referred a co-worker to my travel agent (TA).. and his budget was $8,000 travelling in late June 2006. My awesome TA gave him a quote of ~$6500 for 7 nights (Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora).

FM me if you'd like contact info on my TA... she's really responsive and professional.

Good Luck!
