Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
This has been my problem with planning the HM. I'm refusing to connect, lol, so I'm very limited in selection of Carribean Islands. Good luck.

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
We flew from JFK through Puerto Rico into the smaller airport. I have heard that Air Jamaica flies straight - but into the bigger airport. From what I have heard of the drive from the larger airport - it might be worth it to have a connecting flight so you can fly into the closer one.

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
BWIA has direct flights to St. Lucia and Barbados-- I'm going to Barbados in May and got a direct flight with them when all the other carriers had stop-overs.

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
Air Jamaica may be the only airline with direct flights to St Lucia. When we booked our honeymoon there we were unable to find an airline other than Air Jamaica with direct flights.I believe they also stop at other islands along the way so definitely make sure.
ETA: We flew from JFK to Miami International Airport to St Lucia.
It was a long trip but well worth it, the island is absolutely gorgeous!

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
okay i just did a quick search on orbitz for around the time that you will be traveling to your HM (i assume) the day after your wedding or the day after that and i came up with NO direct flights!! i'm really surprised b/c i got a direct flight to barbados and i searched st. lucia b/c we had a choice to go there too-- but it was for this May. maybe it's different at different times of the year?? but i came up with no direct flights on all the major airlines including AA, BWIA, and A Jamaica
maybe try asking a travel agent if there is anything you can do or if it changes during certain times of the year-- b/c why can i get a direct flight this may but you can in feb 2007? maybe they add more flights as time goes on b/c it is kinda far away??
sorry i couldn't help more but at least you do have this info and can ? it with a TA! HTH

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
The only thing though... I heard even with a direct flight, the resort is like 2 1/2 hours away from the airport, and we have to take a charter flight there after the regular flight.... Let me know if you guys hear anything different.

From what I heard from my SIL and from other people at the resorts, is that when you fly in to the big airport it is a very long, windy road trip to the resorts. Some people charter a helicopter but that is very $$. I've never heard of chartering a flight to the small airport, but I'm sure for enough $ it can be done. Some people enjoy the ride because they get to see the Island. We flew into the small airport and it was about a 15 minute ride (on a fairly straight road) to the Grande.

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
my friend just went a few weeks ago- she won the trip that Z-100 was giving away....she said the main reason z-100 was giving away the trip was to promote air jamaicas new non stop service to st. lucia... so i know they do it, but it may only be on certain days....

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
We originally had an Air Jamaica flight direct booked in Jan of 05 and then they got rid of the flight. I don?t think they do direct anymore.I wound up with an American flight stopping in Philly (a puddle jumper) I was pissed!!! and then on to St.Lucia. We flew into the airport far away. Most didn?t like the long ride. Hot, long, windy, smelly etc. We didn?t really care. I fell asleep. You can get a copter flight for like $100 bucks pp. each way. Heard its amazing and worth the $.
The island is AMAZING!!! Worth the puddle jumper, stop in Philly and crazy bus ride.
We stayed at the Grande. If you have any questions or want more info. Feel free to FM me.

Re: ST Lucia Honeymooners....
We stayed at the Regency. It was a decently long and windy trip to the resort, about an hour and 20 minutes all total. It isn't that bad b/c you are still kind of shell shocked and just kind of sit in the van and stare into space! Our van was filled going to the resort and no one talked! LOLAnyway, we talked to some people who flew into the small airport and it was closer. I think they flew to Puetro Rico and went to a smaller plane there.

Hi - we are flying into the Vigie Airport, and I saw that there was another airport, Hewanorra International Airport, too. Does anyone know how far the Vigie one is from the Grande? Thanks!
