DIY favors

Okay, so this is what we are doing for our favors. We are having a Star Wars theme, so I bought starfish when I was in florida this past january. What I figured was, we'd paint them silver, add some sparkle and a magnet, then wrap our personalized ribbon around it and call it done.
The problem is, my mother, who is extremely crafty, feels we don't need the magnets and they may be too heavy for the starfish. I, on the other hand, feel like without the magnets, the starfish have no function and people will take them home and throw them out! That's the last thing I want, after all the work we are putting into them!

How do I convince my mother that the favors need function?

Prove her wrong! I usually try to make the craft first to show how cute it can be or is. First things first in order to say it's a great favor you have to actually know it is and be able to show it off.

yes, FH hated several ideas i had and after seeing samples, he saw how great they were. and i think the magnet sounds great..i too might just toss it after a month if it served no other purpose.
