Advice for July 2008 wedding?

Congrats to everyone. This is my first post on the boards. I got engaged Christmas Eve and immediately thought to have May 2008. After talking to many people, Im contemplating whether or not to have July since it will be cheaper. However, I want it early in the month before it get too hot. I was thinking of a friday night so it will be cheaper, but the first friday in July is the fourth of july. So my question is, what if i was to have it on the 3rd, which is a thursday. I don't think it will be bad since most people have off on the fourth anyway. My parents are split on the decision and my FH of course is says whatever i want is fine with him. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I actually think it would be fun! What a great weekend - a friend's wedding, 4th of July then the whole weekend! I'm having a July 8th wedding - definitely all about the early July weddings

Be prepared to get flack though - I'm 4 days after the 4th and I had people say 'why so close to the 4th?'

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I'm already thinking along that line... The way i see it is.. our families and close friends won't mind. However, if others we invite don't want to change travel plans or what not, thats fine with me.. less people.. less money I would like everyone i invite to come, but i'd understand.

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I'm this July 7th which is a Friday and the 4th is FH favorite holiday so it was perfect! Yes, some people might complain it is a holiday weekend, but the people that mean the most will be there and will love every minute of it!

Just remember it is your day and do what makes you happy! Good Luck!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I think it's a great idea! Friends and family can continue the celebration on the 4th!!
I am getting married July 3, 2007. It's a Tuesday and was much cheaper for the place that I wanted. It is just like having a Friday night wedding so I think you should go for it!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

July will most likely be just as expensive and here's why: all of the teachers get married then b/c it's after they are out and before they have to return for teacher work days....this was explained to me when we were in shock by how few days in July 06 were available in April 05. (ok...not ALL teachers, but a fair amount)....plus it's in the middle of wedding season.

my only real advice is to NOT put off planning stuff (ie-looking at dresses, invites, limos, etc...) during the holiday season prior to your July. We did and we've been playing some serious catch up for 4 months now. We thought we were helping ourselves out by NOT adding to holiday stress with wedding stuff....big mistake. Ours will be July 9th this year, hopefully not too hot!

Best of luck to you! and welcome!!!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I don't know.. maybe because its hotter than may and june. A coworker's husband works for a reception hall and thats what he says... i have no idea. If you look at the bridal magazine too, april-june and sept-dec are all the prime months to get married, so they are more expensive.

end of may/june-sept/oct are prime wedding times in NY. it can even extend to november!

WM was the same price for may or july but every other place i looked at may was much cheaper. most likely you will find cheaper prices in may. you need to go out and look around, that's the only way you'll know!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

Thanks. I just graduated with my teaching degree which is why i thought july would be better too. Im not planning on teaching right away, i still have to go for my master's degree. But a lot of my friends are going to be teaching this fall. You make a good point though.. Within the next couple of months i will be going to places to price and check them out.

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

well first off, congratulations!

Secondly, my original date was July 30. When I changed it to May 28, the price stayed exactly the same. So if you really want a May wedding then go for it!!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I agree--JUly was not cheaper---we had ours July 9, the weekend after but it was great for us to have the 4th off to prep and all---I think it's fine what you are doing...

We also lucked out--our day was low 70s no humidity---very unJuly like!!

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I think that's fine. But be aware that Thursday weddings are the new in thing to do so they aren't that much cheaper then Fridays. Also, some places consider July 3rd a Friday night price anyway. The catering halls have caught onto the holiday discount idea!

We found that July was actually more expensive than May. Unfortunately, when we booked, May was completely booked at the places we liked best, so we had to go with July...

Definitely send out Save-the-Dates about 9 months before the wedding because we've found that a lot of people pla vacations far in advance for July..

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

July probably won't be cheaper than May. Summer months are considered 'prime' by the catering halls, even though the bridal magazines say it isn't so any longer.

Thursday evenings are becoming popular, and if the next day is a holiday, you probably won't get a price break. There are lots of Sunday before a Monday holiday brides on this site, and we will all tell you that the catering halls look at those Sundays as 'extra' Saturdays, and charge accordingly.

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

In my experience with looking at halls, May was the exact same price as July. The summer months are the most popular, followed by Sept and October. The only months that were cheaper were Jan, Feb, and March. I went to 20 halls, and they all said the same thing. Just because it is hot doesn't mean it will be cheaper.

I think Thursday is fine, do people have the next day off? I am having a Sunday night wedding, which is also cheaper. That is always and option.

Re: Advice for July 2008 wedding?

I'm having the same problem. But so many people have off the following day and to book for a Thursday is such a money saver!!!! Think about all the little extras you can have with the money you save. That's just where my heads at. Good luck!!
