NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

FH and I are looking to by a new set- but dont want to break the wedding fund. Ikea has some great stuff that is reasonably priced- but is it worth the hassle of 'allen keying' everything together?!?!?!

TIA!!!!

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

My dressers and chest in my bedroom are from Ikea. One of them I love and have had for about 8 years and is perfect. The other one, a smaller one from the same collection, is kind of crappy.

It's all hit or miss. If you go there, don't count on having it for awhile (I'm surprised my smaller dresser survived my move, I've nailed together the drawers so many itmes!)

I was totally going to say the same thing. We have some pieces that are great - our coffee table & our butchers block, but we had a dresser from them that was a POS! The bottoms continued to fall out and it 'rocked'...
Needless to say when we bought our new furniture it went out on the street.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

I got my bed from Ikea about 6 or 7 years ago and I love it! It is quite sturdy. But I do have to agree w/ the other ladies. Ikea is kind of hit or miss. But I have noticed an improvement in the quality of their stuff lately.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

We have an IKEA bedroom set that we bought about 1.5-2 years ago and it's definitely falling apart. The entire set was pretty inexpensive, so if you don't mind replacing it every few years then it's worth the price. Here are my warnings though

We have the platform bed with the attached nightstands. Some specific things that have happened...
-the platform that supports the bed is broken. The supports are wooden slats held together by a bendable fabric. The slats no longer line up on my DH's side of the bed and so ther'es a noticeable 'slope' on his side of the bed
-the nightstands keep falling off (they're supposed to be these 'floating' nightstands that are attached to the bed. DH has had to reattach them so many times (he's really handy, so I think it's just the poor construction).
-I spent $$$ (for IKEA - about $600-700) on one item - the computer armoire which we now use to house our TV - and the doors never lined up the right way.
-Also, as an FYI, these items DO NOT TRAVEL WELL. Each time we've moved, they haven't reacted well - whether it's things we've moved without taking them apart or things that we've taken apart and put back together. So, just don't plan on moving anywhere

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

if you aren't planning on having it long and don't want to spend a whole lot then ikea is a good place and they have things that are pretty unique.

but everyone is right-- hit or miss! and if you want it for a while and care about quality then your best bet is to save up and buy elsewhere.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

Ikea is really worth it. My bedroom set right now is from Ikea. I love putting things together, and its something fun the two of you can do together. Once we find an apartment and go to get furniture, we are going to Ikea. I can go crazy in that store, and cannot wait to go shopping there. The prices are perfect for newlyweds!

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

I am the queen of kit furniture. I have some great pieces from them. Everything is not of the best quality but they have good quality piece if you know their stuff. They have a great price range to accomodate price and quality.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

I heard on the radio this morning that Ikea is having their 'spring' something sale... lots of things are going to be %% off, its supposed to be from tomorrow (thursday) - sunday, so if you have time, you might want to check it out then... good luck

p.s. I know a couple of people that work in the Hicksville Ikea, and if you aren't crazy about putting stuff together yourself, a lot of the guys there will put them together for you at your house for a couple $$.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

we're big fans of IKEA- our desk and cabinets in our office is from there, and we've had good luck with it so far... IKEAs great for storage, because you can customize it soo much
BUT, i don't think i would get a bedroom set from there. a bedroom set is something that you want to last for a looong time-
so i would definitely wait till after the wedding, and use some of your gifts to get a really nice one that you'll be happy with for a long time and that will last for a long time.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

Being newlyweds and not wanting to drain the fund, we outfitted our apartment with IKEA furniture. We bought the high end furniture with the idea to use it as spare bedroom furniture when we finally get a house.

We bought the Hemnes set in the antique stain for our bedroom, beds for the kids, our coffee and side table, our kitchen table and chairs and our computer armoire.

Make sure the product you are buying says SOLID WOOD. If it doesn't, chance are it will fall apart after continued use. Also, DH makes sure to wood glue all the connections for extra support.

Re: NWR: Ikea Bedroom Furniture

our entire apartment, just about, is from ikea. the coffee table, bookshelves, table and tv stand are great. we love it and its in great condition. our dressers however, are another story. we bought them a little over a year ago and they are a MESS. I've been begging FH to go back and get new ones.
