semi-wedding related...what will your parents be called once the little ones arrive?

This came up the other day with FMIL....I have a 4 (almost 5) year old and she calls my mom 'gran' her birth father's parents 'grandma and pappy' and FH's parents 'nana and grandpa.'

FH calls her 'mother dear' from time to time enough that my daughter mimics it...in a playful way to 'tease' him...'i don' t know, ask your mother dear.' it's hilarious...she also spent an entire afternoon calling me 'Ma' b/c FBIL does....and she idolizes him. So FMIL told my daughter one day that she can call me 'mother dear' but you know kids, she refused saying that only FH could call FMIL that...and that I could never be 'mother dear.'

So then FMIL says to me, 'I guess I'm Nana now until I die. Because she has been calling me that and it's stuck.'

Obviously my daughter has issues with believing 2 people can have the same name....or title. The first time she heard another kid say 'mommy' she freaked!

My mother is called 'Grandma' by all 4 of her existing grandchildren. She earned it! DH's mother can have whatever name she likes. I am curious to see what she would actually prefer. Only time will tell.

Growing up, I called both of my grandmothers grandma and both of my grandfathers grandpa. Neither one of my grandmothers wanted to be nannie. My kids won't have that problem. FH has a kid already so she calls his mother Nanny. I'm sure my kids will too. My parents be Grandma and Grandpa.

my dad is grandpa and his wife is Nani for 2 reasons 1. because she is not my mom (my mom passed away) and 2 she thinks she is too young to be a grandma

my mom's parents were Nannie and Papoo...
my dad's parents were Grandma Lucy and Grandpa Walter.

When the time comes I'll find out what my mom wants to be called, I'm pretty sure she doesn't want Grandma...

Fh's parents are already called Grandma and Grandpa....

Probably grandma and grandpa; however, my parents are still in shock that they're marrying me off on Sunday! I need to give them at least a year to get over that before I give them news that I'm pg!

My Parents would have been Nana & Poppy.

My FH has a daughter, she calls her maternal grandparents Grandma and Grandpa, even tho she's technically her step-grandmother. I don't know what she calls her biological grandmother. She called FH's mom Nona (Italian for grandma) and her step-grandfather she called Pop-pop.

My neice and nephew call my mom, Nana bc my grandparents are still alive and they're Grandma and Grandpa. I think my dad is Pop, but I don't know about my step-mother who has her own grandkids from her daughters.

Geesh, this extended family thing is confusing!!!!

Never really throught about this.... I think my dad would want to be called Papou (greek for grandpa). I'm not sure if my mom would want to be called grandma or yaya - She is only half greek. FH parents I guess would be called grandma and grandpa since that is what he called his grandparents. Well his dad's step dad he called Pop. But everyone called him Pop (kids, grandkids, etc.) FH never knew his real grandfather - he left when FH's dad was small. I wonder if his dad would walk to be called Pop?

My IL's have 4 grandkids and a 5th on the way (Not, me... my SIL!!!) They are called Saba and Safta (hebrew for grandpa and grandma)

My parents will probably be grandma and grandpa, I don't know what my kids will call my step-mother though or my mother's boyfriend.

my mom will be nana and father will be grandpa.....fhs mother will be grandma and father will be pop........as for the step parents!!!! who the hell knows!

My son will be a year next week and he doesn't call my parents or FH's parents anything yet but FH's parents want to be called Gram and Gramps and my mom is grandma and my dad is grandpa, although he jokes that he wants to be called 'Oh wise Grandfather'.....in reality it will depend on what Jake calls them when he starts talking and what our daughter calls them when she's born!!!

my kids has two grandmas

the first they call grandma lee lee (her husband's name is willie

the second grandma they call grandma toe toe (her husband's nick name is toe)

I would imagine they would call my Dad ...Grandpa and I have no idea what they will call my step mother. She is only a mere 10 years older than me! I think I will die laughing when that day rolls around The look on her face will be priceless!!

My FIL want to be called Nonna & Nonno but my
parents who have 3 grandchildren already are called pappa for my Dad & nanny for my Mom

My kids call my parents Grandma and Grandpa or Papa

They call FH's mother Grammy (which is what I called my mom's mom when she was with us!).

My Mom's mother was Nanny so that's what she wanted to be called. We never knew our grandfathers so when it came time for my Dad to be called something, the kids shortened 'grandpa' to 'pa-pa' because it was easier to say. He loves it.

That's the same reason why all the nieces and nephews (even the ones who are now teenagers) call me Aunt Tiesha. My name is Tricia but they couldn't pronounce the hard 'tr' sound so well. And my FH is Uncle Ruddy to the younger ones (his name is Rusty).

Kids are great.

My parents are already grandparents. They are Poppy and Mimi.

My dad wanted to be Poppy and my niece just came up with Mimi - so thats what stuck!

As for FH parents they are already called Grandma and Grandpa by FH niece so they will probably be the same with our kids.



ETA: My mom couldn't decided what she wanted to be called when my sister was pg. I told her just wait and see what the baby calls you. It turned out to be Mimi and my mom loves it!
