Wedding Dress Shopping - Good Place to Start
I was thinking of starting my wedding dress hunt tomorrow (if I can get an appointment anyway). I was looking for suggestions on where to start. Somewhere with a large range of different dresses and price range (not looking to spend a fortune on my dress). Any suggestions would be great? If you have telephone and/or web address please post. Thanks Kimberly (looking for stores in LI(prefer Nassau), Queens or Brooklyn) to start

Try Estelles dressy dresses in Farmingdale on route 110. I found my dress there, but got it somewhere else because they don't do alterations. They are a great place for good prices. My dress was only $327 and it's beautiful. My MOH got her dress there 2 years ago. I bought my dress in East Islip. Might be too far for you but they were by far the best experience I have had while planning my wedding. They are Angel Bridal 39 West Main st.Phone# (631)581-3330. Can't say enough good things about them. Tell them their lightning bride sent you(Debbie). My dress arrived in less than 3 WEEKS! Good luck!

I got mine at bridal reflections in Nassau (the store has a website) - but they're pretty high end. My sister went to Lillette's in Baldwin which had a great selection of more affordable dresses -- and of course -- if you want to shlep to Brooklyn, you can always check out the famous Kleinfelds. Don't forget to bring someone with you who you trust -- salespeople at bridsal salons can be super-pushy and tell you how phenomenal you look & push for you to purchase the gown IMMEDIATELY... Having a friend/Mom there to support you helps a lot!

One of the first stores I went to was Bonaventure on Franklin Ave. in Garden City. They have a good selection of reasonably priced dresses. I didn't buy mine here, but the sales woman was very helpful and never rushed me or anything, so this may be a nice place to start. Bridal Reflections in Carle Place is nice also, but the dresses are expensive.

RK
I actually have been to RK once. I was going with my sister right after christmas to look for her Wedding dress since she was in town and we went there, when we made the plans I wasnt engaged (got engaged on Christmes). So when we went, since I was engaged I figured I would try on 1 or 2. I liked it there and they said they would beat any price. So now I figured I will start at salons in LI, Queens and Brooklyn and then if I find the dress I like I could always go back there. Who knows! Also I will probably make a trip into city and go there and some other places, but since I dont work in the city will either take a day off or have to do the deadly saturday. thanks for the help girls, I really appreciate it. One other good thing about RK, they let you take pictures!

David's
in carle place. I don't think a lot of people like it there bc the sales people can be rude, but mine weren't too bad and they certainly had a lot of reasonable dresses. Mine was $525.

Who helped you out? I am thinking of visiting them. Must you make an appointment or does it even matter? What is the best time to visit without getting rushed out the door? I apologize for all the questions but I have heard stories on this board of this place. They are more affordable than all the small boutiques and I am not looking for extra service for my dress. Thanks in advance!

the lady who helped me was Etta, but she was no better or worse than the other ladies I saw helping people. You basically walk in, fill out your name on a piece of paper, tell the lady what size you are, she says, ok then look one size bigger, and points you to a long rack of dresses in your size. You pick out a bunch and go try them on, and that`s it! They seem to be more interested in you if you are going to pick out your bridesmaids dresses there too, which I wasn`t. When she was busy I was on my own with zippers and stuff, but at times she was there helping me, didn`t really give opinions. She was a little pushy bc there was a sale and she kept saying I should make a decision and buy bf the sale was over, but that really didn`t bother me. I`m not the type to order a fancy gown. You buy it and walk off with it, make an appointment about a month before your wedding to have it altered and steamed. My gown was like 575$ and it was on sale for $525 I think. there were also much less expensive dresses there, and more expensive. I`d give it a shot! good luck! PS you can totally browse a million dresses on line at www.davidsbridal.com and then write down the dress numbers you like and look for them in the store.

Thanks jpsgirl!!
that's the location I went to. I think you'll do fine, just go when you have a lot of time and don't have to rush around, and I'd bring someone close to you to ask opinions and help with that zipper, I totally had a stiff neck from doing it myself! (all my friends were sick or busy, mom is another story, and I was determined to buy my dress that day!)Welcome New Vendors
