UPDATATED!!! MOB dress--black??

My mom found a dress that she absolutely loves...she loves it in black though. She said she would get it in a dark gray color...but I know she loves the black.

I really don't want her in a black dress...considering it's black..and it is a day wedding. What do you girls think?

ps...she said she loves it in the dark gray color just as much as the black...

UPDATE!!!!! Ok, well we went tonight, and my mom decided to go with the dark gray..pewter...it looks really good on her...so she is happy, I am happy...we're all happy!! She really felt the same about the black and pewter she said, so her decision was to shy away from the black. Which, is great with me!! Thank you everyone for your views on this!! Oh, and my girls bought their dresses as well!! YAY!!

Well I recently just had the same dilemma with my Mom. My BM are wearing black and my Mom called me and said she wanted to as well. At first I can lie, I was not happy, but then sat back and thought about it. It's not a big deal and to me it came down to whatever she was comfortable in.

I told her to wear what she wants in the end.

i just saw your pics...and that is why I questioned it...FH's mom will not wear black...in fact, I think she'll think it's weird...lol...

My mom got a black dress and I actually wanted her to get black over any other color - I think black is so formal and elegant. I personally love it.

My cousin-in-law's mother wore black to her wedding last September. The wedding was at 1pm, the reception not til 6...

So, it is becoming more socially acceptable I guess. I don't particularly care for the idea of Mom's / wedding party members wearing black either.

If you feel that you don't want your mom in black, then express that to her...if she's willing to wear the other color, maybe that's a good compromise for the two of you - or maybe it isn't the right dress...my Mom had found 'the dress' but it didn't come in the right color so she kept looking...eventually she found the REAL 'right' dress....in the right color...

i know black is in...i just wanted her to stand out a little...from all the other black dresses in the crowd...hmmmm...i want her to be happy...but i also don't want people thinking she's in mourning lol

but its your wedding, so if u dont want black, then ask her to wear the pewter....

If it were my mother who wanted to wear black I would have no problem with that because I know she's happy about the wedding. If it were my MIL I would say no because I know that to her it would be her way of showing how miserable the marriage is making her and that our wedding is like a funeral to her. I'm just waiting for her to go dress shopping and announce that she will be wearing a black a dress, although FH did mention something about her wanting to wear a white dress. If she does that, I then she can walk down the aisle with FH

Black is classic and formal... i say go for it!!! plus, she will noticeable wearing that and her dress will not clash with the BM's dresses.

my mommys fave 'color' is black.. she feels most comfortable in it. .so im all for the black !


the no black rule came from old italian(?) custom where the mother wore black to dissapprove .. but in todays society black is elegant and formal..

id say let her wear what she is more comfortable and beatiful feeling in

MOB dress is gorgeous and she looks good in it. If it's comfortable and she likes it- Why not? Plus any flowers you get will match.
