Ok, now here’s the recap! I’m warning you it’s going to be REALLY long… I’m leaving nothing out!!!

DAY 1 - Monday June 12th
*Air Tahiti Nui flight from NY
*Tahiti Intercontinental Resort

Our wedding was Saturday (June 10th) and we left for Tahiti Monday (June 12th). We’re SO glad we had the whole day Sunday to spend with family and most of Monday to finish packing and clean the apartment a little. We got to the Air Tahiti Nui terminal a little before 3pm. Our flight wasn’t until 5:15pm so we checked in and got something to eat.

The flight felt really long because we were too excited to sleep. We were both up most of the 12 hours. We each had our own TV with 7 movies playing continuously… I watched most of them… some twice. There were also games like solitaire, golf, chess & tetris which helped pass the time. We sat in coach and thought the seats were normal size, not too comfy and didn’t recline very much (we had a different plane on the way home and the seats reclined MUCH more and it was much more roomy)! We got 2 meals… the first was fish so they gave me a salad instead and you get a few sides and bread with it. They come around and ask you if you want water throughout the flight if you’re awake too. I forget what the 2nd meal was… but the food was okay. LIW-er Pigs222seal and her new hubby sat right behind us so we talked a little and she got me this awesome pink sweatshirt with our names and wedding date on it… so sweet!

After a verrry looong 12 hour non-stop flight WE WERE IN TAHITI!!! It was about midnight in Tahiti (6am NY time).

We waited on a very long line once we arrived at the airport and then found our transfer to the Tahiti Intercontinental Resort. Once we got to the Intercontinental, we waited on another long line to check in. We finally go to our room at about 2am and went right to bed.

The room was okay. We had a regular garden view hotel room that kinda smelled like mildew. Glad we were only there 1 night.

DAY 2 – Tuesday June 13th
*Ferry to Moorea
*Moorea Pearl Resort
*Fire show at M Pearl

We were up at 7am that morning so we didn’t get much sleep… we walked around the resort and had a great buffet breakfast. The pool was gorgeous and the view was too.

We checked out around 11am and got our transfer to the Arameti ferry to Moorea! It was only 25 mins, indoor, air-conditioned and you could get food/drinks if you wanted.

We got off the ferry and found our transfer that took us to the Moorea Pearl Resort!

We checked in at the Moorea Pearl and filled out some paperwork. They gave us a cold fruit drink and then our room was ready right away. We had beach bungalow #302, which was amazing!!!!! It was huge and the bathroom was awesome... no shower doors. LOL! There were only 3 beach bungalows (6 premiums on the other side of the resort) and ours was in the middle. The one to the left of us was the dive center. We didn’t mind it AT ALL since there was hardly anyone over there anyway and we actually had an amazing view of the sunset on that side of the resort!

Hanging out on our deck!

We hung out in our bungalow for the rest of the day and then went to the restaurant at the Moorea Pearl. I had a great salad with lots of veggies as an appetizer and then had a lasagna for dinner… little did I know it was made with goat cheese and I didn’t like it at all. Thank god the bread was good! Len had the salmon and loved it. That night there was also a fire show, which was awesome!

By 9pm we were ready for bed.

DAY 3 – Wednesday June 14th
*Rented car in Moorea
*Dinner at Alfredo’s

We went to the activities desk early when we woke up and were able to rent a car for 8 hours. We were going to rent the open air buggy, but it was rainy that morning so we went for the regular car.

We got a map from the car company and drove around a little then saw the sign for Belvedere Mountain Lookout. So we turned off the main road and followed it alllll the way up. On the way up there is a little parking spot to go into the woods to a small temple and read some info.

Then we got back in the car and continued going up a very windy road to Belvedere lookout. WOW, what a view! The pics don’t do it justice.

After that we drove around the entire island… took us about 3 hours since we stopped along the way for pics. There is only 1 road going around the island, no stop signs, no street lights and if you rent a car just know that it is manual. Len knew how to drive stick, not me. Then we stopped for lunch near the Pearl. It was called the Mahana Café and I had a greek salad that was to die for! Len had a chicken panini that was also amazing. Highly recommend this place for lunch. The owner also spoke Spanish so it was easy for Len to communicate w/ her since he’s fluent.

Construction on Sofitel Moorea

In Town

We returned the car later that day and made reservations for Alfredo’s Restaurant. They pick you up and take you home for free, but there is a sign on the window that says tips appreciated. There was a live singer with a guitar… he kinda sucked but it was nice to hear some Billy Joel, etc. I had the fettuccini alfredo with chicken and Len had a seafood platter or something like that. I also had a Caesar salad to start and Len had mussels. Everything was really good and not too expensive!!

DAY 4 – Thursday June 15th
*Pool
*Rented canoe

This was a pretty uneventful day except that I woke up and had a pain in my ear. I got this once before when I went away w/ my mom and sis and we were in the water for 3 days straight. So I knew it was swimmers ear or something like it since Len & I had been in the water snorkeling for hours each day! So we got up and had breakfast then walked into town to the pharmacy. The pharmacist knew exactly what it was and gave me ear drops and ear plugs so I could go in the water without getting the inside of my ear wet. On the walk back we saw a really cute store with nice sunglasses. We both really needed a new pair so we looked around and both found nice ones! A gift to ourselves. Everyone in all the stores are SO nice so we ended up being at the sunglass store for about 2 hours!

When we got back we hit the infinity pool for a few hours and did some snorkeling.

Lots of coral!

Can you see the fish in the sand??

Then we rented a canoe at our resort (free)!!

Moorea Pearl (view from out in the lagoon)

We skipped dinner and went to bed by 6pm and slept through till the next morning! I think we needed that to get used to the time change.

DAY 5 – Friday June 16th
*Shark & Ray Feeding
*Allo Pizza for dinner

We had the breakfast buffet and then went to the pool area to get fins and meet our tour guide for the Shark & Ray Feeding Tour! This is a MUST DO!!! We booked through the Moorea Pearl and I think it was only $60 each for 6 hours! It was through Hiro’s Tours and our tour guide was Bruno. He was funny and made it so fun!

So we met at the pool and walked over to the dock and got on an open air boat. There were probably about 10-12 couples with us. We drove a while in the lagoon and Bruno told us some facts about the island and showed us a few mountains, etc. He also said that every October/November humpback whales come right into the lagoon! So those of you going then, maybe you’ll see some whales!!!

Our first stop was across from the Sheraton. They put a rope out from the back of the boat and everyone jumps in the water and hangs onto the rope so you don’t float away. Then Bruno gets in the water with fish heads and all kinds of food and the sharks start arriving!!! With TONS of beautiful fish! Swimming with sharks was an amazing experience! At first I was a little scared when they came so close (I could literally reach out and touch them if I wanted) but you get used to it and know they aren’t interested in you… just the food the tour guide has.

Our next stop was a few mins down the lagoon (near the Intercontinental Moorea) where the stingrays were. This was so much fun because the water is shallow… maybe waist high and perfectly clear so you could see the stingrays perfectly. They are huge! And slimy. They come right up to you and rub against your stomach & legs! Awesome experience!!!

After the stingrays the boat took us to a private island. We pulled up right onto the beach and onto this little tiny private island with only a few bbq’s, stray cats, chickens and a beautiful beach! It’s bizarre seeing water all around you and the main island in the distance. They served us bbq chicken, fish, noodles and rice. Great food! After we ate we hung around on the island and snorkeled for a while… there were stingrays right along the shore! Then Bruno showed us how to open a coconut and how to shave it and get the coconut milk. After a few hours on the island we headed back.

When we got back to our bungalow we realized it was our last night there... so I was taking it ALL in!

Since we were tired from our all day shark excursion and had to get up early to get our flight to Bora Bora, we ordered pizza from Allo Pizza. We got the primavera pizza, sodas and dessert. It was REALLY good, not too expensive and delivered fast! Definitely get the homemade chocolate mousse for dessert, yum!

Re: Our French Polynesia Honeymoon Review with pics (long)!!! 11 Days – Tahiti (Interconti), Moorea (Pearl) & Bora Bora (Pearl) from June 12, 2006 – June 23, 2006!

DAY 6 – Saturday June 17th
*Air Tahiti to Bora Bora
*Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort

We checked out of the Moorea Pearl at around 10am and got our transfer to the airport for our flight to Bora Bora! I was so nervous since I hate flying and never been on a small prop plane. I think it seats about 60 people and every seat was taken! It was one aisle with 2 seats on either side, so not too small. Take off was scary, but then again I hate that part... the flight was smooth. They serve fruit juice, then you’re there. It’s about 40 mins! Oh and sit on the left side!!!

View from the left side of the plane!

Bora Bora is absolutely gorgeous!!!! It’s really hard to describe the beauty. We got off the plane and a greeter from the BB Pearl was there with tags for our luggage & flower necklaces. Then we got on a small boat about 5 mins across the lagoon (the airport is on it’s own motu) to the BB Pearl. The BB Pearl is also on it’s own motu!

We checked in and were given fruit juice and cold vanilla scented towels! Our Garden Pool Bungalow was ready right away. What a room!!!! We had a huge backyard, sitting area, private pool, lounge chairs… inside was a huge bed, huge bathroom, flat panel tv, outdoor shower!

Of course there is the World Cup playing on the TV 6 seconds after we get into the room!

Little bridge we had to walk over to get to our garden bungalow.

We had lunch at the restaurant in the Pearl (and dinner too) and it was amazing! The food here at the BB Pearl was phenomenal! The BREAD was SO good!!!! Quick service too. Later that night we had drinks at the bar and they had a live band. We played some pool, then went to bed.

We got slippers & bottled water every night when they turned down our room!

DAY 7 – Sunday June 18th
*Pool/Activities
*Couples Massage
*Room Service

This was a lazy day. We got up and had the buffet breakfast. SO much more to choose from than the Moorea Pearl breakfast! You could get eggs any way you want, French toast, pancakes, etc… they had lots of cut up fruit, miso soup, bacon, sausage, cold cuts, cereals, breads, croissants, vegetables, rice, etc… so much food!! We ate this every single morning.

We had a massage for 11am at the new Manea Spa at the BB Pearl! It was brand new and immaculate! We were asked to change in the changing room (separate), lock up our clothes, etc and put on these Polynesian wraps & slippers. Too cute! Then they took us in a room together and we had a side by side massage. It was soooooo relaxing. We did the 50 minute massage. It was a full body massage (even scalp) and they used vanilla oils & had soft music playing. We really needed it… Len even said he fell asleep at one point!

Pool!!

After our massages, we got a spot by the pool and stayed there most of the day.

We also took a dip in the lagoon!

Pics around the resort:

Then we played some mini golf and tennis (at the resort) and took a dip in our private pool that afternoon.

That night we got room service. Very quick and delicious!!

DAY 8 – Monday June 19th
*Moved to OWB
*Parasailing
*Dinner at Bloody Mary’s

We got up and had breakfast, then checked out of our garden bungalow. While we were checking out they said our OWB was ready early!!! So before parasailing we were able to go see our OWB and put all our stuff in the room. This room was INCREDIBLE! We’re so glad we saved this for our last 3 nights! AND we're so glad we didn't pay the extra for the Premium OWB... they don't get any sun! Ours got sun on it ALL day.

The walk to our bungalow (we were way out in the lagoon)

We had the glass coffee table and the sink, tub and end tables had glass to see through to the lagoon too!

Our OWB deck:

View from our OWB:

To the left...

To the right...

We got the 11:15 boat to the main island (the BB Pearl has a boat about every hour to the main island for free) and met our group for parasailing! This was scary!!! I’m afraid of flying and heights to begin with but I chose parasailing instead of the helicopter ride (Len wanted to do both) so I went with it. We chose to go 900 feet (not 300 feet which I wanted to do) and it was HIGH!!!!! There were 2 other couples with us and we were the first to go. I freaked a little because it’s very windy up there and can feel when the boat turns and everything. I didn’t realize how high 900 feet was… but what a view! We were up for about 20 mins… supposed to be 25 mins but I made len do the signal to get down b/c I was really scared! I know… I’m a baby.

Trying to smile!

Look how tiny the boat is!!!

Almost down...

Other couples we went with... all married on June 10th.

I’m glad I did the parasailing, but will never do it again. Hehe. I do recommend it though… great way to see the views around Bora Bora.

That night we met Carissa & Adam (pigs222seal) at Bloody Mary’s! We had a great time!! It’s very touristy but definitely a must see! The floor is sand and you sit on tree stumps (that Carissa and I both fell off a few times)! We had free transportation from our hotel. The food was great and service was pretty quick. You pick what you want from a table of food when you arrive, no menus. You must see the Men’s bathroom! Too funny…

DAY 9 – Tuesday June 20th
*Tattoos
*Dinner at Pearl

We had decided we wanted to get tattoos (both of us had been wanting one for years) and figured Bora Bora was the perfect place! The Pearl recommended 2 tattoo artists… Fati and Marama. Marama was on vacation all week so they called Fati for us and he had an appointment for Tuesday. We took the boat over to the main island at 1:15pm and the free shuttle to town. Then once in town we got a cab to Fati’s Tattoos ($15 for the cab). We LOVED Fati! We were literally in a little hut on the side of the road but he was VERY clean, opened all the needles new and knew exactly what kind of tattoos we wanted. We told him we wanted turtles with the Polynesian design and he did his thing!

Sorry the pics are really bad...
Len's tat (on his right shoulder blade):

My tat (lower back - right side):

We love how they came out and how different they are! There were like 7 other people waiting for tattoos after us, but he still spent about 15 mins after we were done to talk to us and pick some grapefruits for us. Then he called cab so we could go back to town and catch our boat back to the Pearl.

We ate all 4 HUGE grapefruits in 2 days... they aren't as bitter as the ones here... SOOO good!!

We had dinner at one of the restaurants (they had 2) at the Pearl… again great service and food!

DAY 10 – Wednesday June 21st
*4x4 Jeep Tour
*Pearl Farm
*Rainy day

We booked the 4x4 Jeep Tour for our last day. We woke up and it was very dark and rainy, but the tour went on anyway! We booked through the Pearl and I think our tour guide was Ari or Ali?

Our first and only dreary, rainy day!

We did the tour in the pouring rain!! It was really fun, but muddy and wet. The first part of the tour was going up some back dirt/mud roads to the tops of some mountains for the views. Gorgeous! The rain actually stopped for a few mins while we were up at the first mountain.

We went up another road to see some old canons used in WWII! He also showed us bunkers used in the war and told us how Bora Bora had the first airport of all the islands and some other neat facts.

We drove around the entire island stopping in town for a little and at the Pearl Farm. I didn’t plan on getting a pearl but when we saw how they were made I was sold! I’ll spare you the details, but definitely go and learn about this… really interesting. The pearl we bought took over 4 years to make!!! It’s a 9mm, has a green tint and is rated as a B. I love it! I’m going to have it mounted in a necklace.

There are dogs and little puppies everywhere:

We got back around noon and had lunch at the Pearl. It rained ALL day! Our first and only rainy day. We lounged around for the rest of the day and then met some couples for drinks that night. Then the 2 of us went to the other restaurant at the Pearl for dinner. It was Italian so right up my alley!

DAY 11 – Thursday June 22nd
*Our last day
*Air Tahiti back to Tahiti Faa’a Airport
*Air Tahiti Nui home to NY

We woke up on our last day and had the buffet breakfast. Check out wasn’t until 11am so we snorkeled all morning! We just didn’t want to leave!!

More pics around the resort...

Our flight wasn’t until 2:30 so when we checked out we went to have lunch and then hung out in the lobby for a while before taking the 1:20 boat to the airport. The flight was on time and we got to Tahiti around 3:15. Our flight wasn’t until 9pm back to NY!! We met this couple who we went into town with and shopped around for gifts. While we were in town we saw the Tahitian Princess cruise… it looks gorgeous!

Then we had lunch with them back at the airport before getting on the plane to go home. We were ready to go home but sad to leave at the same time. Our flight was delayed about 45 mins because of a late flight getting in from bora bora. The flight was great… we slept the first 6 hours since it was after 10pm and we were used to going to bed around 9 every night! The last 6 hours went pretty quick… watched a few movies, games, etc. The food was good I had pasta for dinner with bread and salad and in the morning they gave us eggs with ham. Then, we were home.

We’ll never forget this trip… not only because it was our honeymoon but because it will be the most beautiful place we’ll ever go (i'm sure)! We want to go back but probably not till our 10 year anniv… if that. To all of you that are going soon, I’m jealous!!!

OVERALL (Tips & Info)

-We HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the new Olympus Stylus 720 Digital Camera! It's waterproof up to 10 feet (NO waterproof case needed) and shock proof. We got GREAT underwater video, pics, etc. We were so glad we had this camera!!!

-You don’t need THAT much sunscreen. We brought one SPF 50, one SPF 30, two SPF 15’s and one SPF 8. We only used about ½ of the SPF 15 and maybe ¼ of the SPF 30. We already had kind of a base tan and we also tan easily. We used mostly spf 15 and didn’t burn at all. We got great tans while we were there! But, the sun IS strong.

-The food isn’t THAT expensive! We were expecting the worst but we didn’t have any dinners over $120 total… with wine, appetizers, etc. Most were under $80. We heard villa mahana was really expensive though… we didn’t go there.

-The food is really good!! I don’t know if it was just our hotels and the restaurants we picked, but we loved the food!! I sometimes felt limited since I don’t eat red meat or fish (don’t like it) but every chicken, pasta or veggie dish I got was GREAT!! Especially at the Bora Bora Pearl! We read about most people hating the food, but don’t worry it was great.

-The bugs weren’t bad at all. We only used bug spray 2 out of the 11 days. I got a couple bites in bora bora at the resort while playing tennis and forgot the bug spray but we didn’t notice any bugs at the moorea pearl or the bora bora pearl in the overwater bungalow. We could leave the doors & windows open and no bugs. We did notice some around the garden bungalow at the bb pearl, but that was it. Also, at breakfast there are flies, but that’s to be expected since all the food is out and it’s all open.

-Bring snacks! We’re so glad we did! We ate them ALL! Granola bars, peanut butter, wheat thins, fruit roll ups, teddy grahams. The BREAD is so amazing there so just buy a lot of that when you get there and spread some peanut butter on it... yum!

-Bring your own water shoes, snorkel equipment (mask & snorkel) and floats! We snorkeled every single day and we’re so glad we had our own snorkel stuff to grab and go when we wanted. Water shoes are a must too… there is lots of coral on all the islands. We didn’t use fins at all… just our water shoes.

-We only took about $500 cash for gifts, etc… we used credit cards for the rest as you get a better exchange rate. The hotels take anything (amex, visa, mc, etc) but shops in town and restaurants mostly only take mc or visa. Don’t forget to call your credit cards in advance and tell them you will be out of the country and using them frequently.

-I wore my rings and Len wore his! I’m SO glad we decided to bring them. I wore them everywhere, even the shark feeding. I put my e-ring on my right hand since it’s much tighter on my right and left my band on my left. I never left them in the safe once.

-Pack LIGHT!! I had lots of nice shirts and skirts with me that I didn't even wear. I do wish I had more bathing suits though... only brought 5... could have used 2 more. We brought one BIG suitcase which was a mistake. Bring two smaller ones rather than one big one or you'll be forced to make it lighter at the airport, like we had to!

-Sit on the left side of the plane on Air Tahiti (Moorea to Bora Bora)!!! GREAT views!

-Bring bread back to your OWB from the restaurants to feed the fish! They love it!!!

I hope you enjoyed my review!! Thanks for all your advice and hope mine can help some of you too!

I was waiting for your review amnd I knew it would be great. We are taking the same Honeymoon. The only difference is we are staying at the Moorea Pearl and Bora Bora Pearl. I was so glad you said what the name of your camera was. You took amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing and as usual, all of your pictures and reviews were great. Good Luck.
