Wanted to share with everyone, please read
I just wanted to share something with everyone because so many woman use this site, and alot of women don't know about this...maybe I can help someone. If you have a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, it might be genetic. I have the gene, and know only because my mom told me about the test before she passed away at age 45. It was scary, but I took the blood test, and found out that I do have the gene. BUT....the good news is that you can get mammos and mri's and ultrasounds of your breasts and ovaries at an earlier age, I get them 3 times a year, and I am 30. So, you can prevent getting it better! If anyone has any questions about it FM me, I don't want to write a completely long note about it, this is a wedding site afterall
I just wanted to help if I could

Re: Wanted to share with everyone, please read
It is a blood test, and if you have the gene, insurance covers all the tests and pre-ventative care you need.. The cost of the test is expensive sometimes...depends on your insurance. It was 2000, and my insurance covered 1500.....so I paid 500 out of pocket. But I am soo glad I took it. I am actually having a double mast. soon, they do reconstructive surgery...you can't even tell that they are not you own. That is my choice though, it decreases my chances of getting it by alot.

Re: Wanted to share with everyone, please read
Thank you! I read an article about a woman who had her breast removed because she carried the gene and would eventually get breast cancer so she did it before she got sick.

Re: Wanted to share with everyone, please read
I heard of this test I think.... is it comparable to the test given to men for prostate cancer? If it's the same thing I'm thinking of there are a few famous faces (men, go figure) fighting for us to get the same coverage on this test that men do for their tests. Again, I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same thing. Thanks for the heads up though!!

Re: Wanted to share with everyone, please read
My mom and grandmother are both breast cancer survivors. I've been told about this test too and have been too scared so far to do it. Thanks for the reminder and hopefully...the inspiration to get my act together and get to the doctor.

"Most cases of breast cancer do not involve altered genes that are inherited. At most, about 1 in 10 breast cancer cases can be explained by inherited alterations in BRCA1 and 2 genes."
