Re: bikram yoga...

I went 2x to one in NYC and I liked it - it was MY ONLY 2 times ever going to yoga and I told them I had never done it and they were SO GREAT giving me extra attention to make sure i was doing it right - and I sweat my BUTT off! I really liked it and wanted to continue but just another expense right now...

Re: bikram yoga...

I've heard that the center in RVC has specials all the time! last special they had was 2 weeks for $20. I'm dying to do it myself. Just nervous about the bodily functions... YIKE!

Re: bikram yoga...

Be very careful and bring TONS of water because you will sweat like you have never sweat before. I think its great for certain things, and I dont know what you are going for but its not great for toning and trimming down for the big day. You could also try Vinyasa Yoga its more physical. I go to OM in union square. As for Bikrum I go to one on 72nd and Broadway, I like it there.

Re: bikram yoga...

I absolutely LOVE Bikram Yoga!!! I take classes in the city after work and I will soon be going to the one in RVC on the weekends (probably right after the summer).

My friend got me hooked on it...she lost 25 pounds in less than 2 months (going 3-4 times a week). Even if you don't need to lose weight...the difference in just your muscle tone is insane. I can see much more definition now than I did when going only to the gym.

It is a very intense workout so drink lots of water before going (and try not to eat 2 hours before) but I highly recommend it! I have gotten a good 5 people from work to start taking the classes with me and they love it too!

Good luck!

Re: bikram yoga...

OMG I yoga it is so relaxing and it increases flexibility, lengthens, strengthens and tones you. I haven't been to a location out here, but I did go frequently when I was in Chicago. Yoga is a good thing to practice months before the wedding

You soo won't! As long as you concentrate on your breathing you should be fine. I did feel a bit 'pukey' and faint at my first class but once you get the breathing technique down you can breath yourself right out of those feelings. (when my first instructor told us that in the beginning of the class I looked at her like she was nuts...i didn't buy into the whole 'breathing through it' thing...but much to my surprise it worked!

You should def try it! And even if you can't do all of the poses or start to feel 'weird' they just ask you to sit on your mat and focus on your breathing.
