having your ceremony at the reception hall?

my fh and i are very interested in having our ceremony at the reception hall but my only question is if we are going to do that do we have to have that done during the day because i went to the chateau briand showcase two weeks ago and they said they only have afternoon ceremonies and i would really like to have my ceremony around 4 or 5 and then have an evening reception--i have two appts to majestic gardens and windows on the lake monday and i just wanted a heads up about what to ask regarding this question...thanks

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

We are getting married at noon. A champagne guest arrival is scheduled for 11:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 12:30.

We could have had our ceremony in the evening as well. Ask the hall again.. maybe they meant you can only have the ceremony in the afternoon if you are using the outside gazebo or something. It seems odd that they only allow ceremonies in the afternoon...

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

My cocktail hour is at 6-7 and my ceremony is 7-7:30
At Crest Hollow I wasn't even allowed to have an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour before 6 because people are at the pool till 5.

As for Pictures - we are allowed 3 hours before. I don't want my guests waiting around and I don't think this is allowed anyways. Unfortunately if you get married at a place, you either have to do it before or miss some of CH/reception.

majestic gardens!!!!

so i went to my two appts yesterday at windows on the lake and majestic gardens and i went to these two because these were the two furthest out from me(i live in queens). we went to windows on the lake and we were shown the beach club estate and i just couldnt picture my wedding there, it was small and run down looking in my opinion, i saw the paint chipped off on one wall by the tables, the dance floor was like the size of my room, the only thing we loved was the view of the water in the background. so then we went to majestic gardens and i actually was not expecting the ambiance and pure beauty of the place, it had marble floors and even a marble dance floor and the garden in the back that is kind of hidden for a ceremony is BEAUTIFUL!!!! the website does it no justice!! espically since we plan on having the ceremony at our reception hall....so we looked at prices for oct/nov 08 and it turns out that sunday the weekend of colombus day might be our day..we are going to the showcase they are having with the cocktail hour to help our decision and we also have 9 other places to look at in three weeks before the showcase because we want to book if we dotn find bettter the night of the showcase, i cant believe only the second place we looked at might be our place...im so excited...please dont take that night girls lol..........any info on majestic would be nice!!!

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

I am doing the same. Walking down the isle will not be the first time FH sees me. But I have heard from other brides on other posts that it dosen't ruin the walking down the isle. It still feels great!

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

i think the time of the ceremony depends on the place, ours was at 12pm, so that doesn't help you much..

As for the picture taking thing, if you don't want to see him before the ceremony, you are going to miss your CH and probably part of your reception. In all the halls the CH will immediately follow the ceremony, what else would your guests do?
We took pics before the ceremony - and still missed some of our CH which was not how I had planned it, I wanted to be there for the whole thing.

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

The ceremony for my wedding will be on the beach if it does not rain, the cocktail hour on the outerdeck and reception inside. All at the same place.

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

We are having the ceremony at 7:30, CH from 8-9 and reception from 9-1 am.

I was also very against seeing each other before the ceremony to take pictures, but really wanted me, FH and the BP to enjoy the entire cocktail hour, since it sounds like its going to be amazing. Before even expressing this concern to my photographer, he was explaining to me the benefit of taking the pics before the ceremony. He said they get a better picture of you and the groom seeing each other for the first time when 1) they are not constrained by where they can get the best camera angle as they often are in a church, ceremony room, etc. 2) the couple is usually even more emotional when no one else is around and its a moment between just the two of you (and the photographer of course).

Once he showed me the pictures of the weddings he had done where the couple saw each other before the ceremony in a private meeting outsdie or in a room, we were sold, They were amazing....and now we all get to enjoy the CH and not feel rushed throughout the night.

Re: having your ceremony at the reception hall?

I had my ceremony at 6:30 and I recommend taking pics before the ceremony...the one hour of cocktail hour was not enough time to take pictures...JMO
