For all you students who are getting married

I am heading into my senior year in college and I am so afraid that I am going to focus on the wedding planning more than my studies. With risk of sounding like a total nerd, how did you balance the two? I work, I am taking 15 credits and I have the planning of the wedding...Everyone has vendors and stuff and I am about to start school next week. I know the wedding is important but so is school...

any advice??

thanks, Diane

Re: For all you students who are getting married

Hey! My dad freaked out when I got engaged cause he thought I wouldn't want to finish getting my Masters. I'm not taking anywhere near as many credits as you but I do all my planning after work so its kind of like school work. Dont stress because you have already booked your hall which is the main priority and you still have plenty of time to book the other stuff - dont rush it, cause if you do you wont enjoy it.

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I had the same prob- finishing up med school and planning this wedding! I'm still planning out the little details (eek!) - but you'll be fine. You have lots of time, just take it slow and don't buy stuff on a whim, you might spend more than you expected. Also make a budget, and really try to stick to it. (very hard to do, i know!) But it looks like you have great taste- we picked Floral Terrace too!!! good luck and congrats!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

thanks guys...yea I am just freakin a bit because I bought all my school books last night and thought, 'How am I going to pay for wedding stuff?' ::sigh:: I am trying to push through this last year!!

I can't wait for your review of your wedding!! It is soon, you must be excited.

so I guess the wedding plans will have to be on the back burner for now...well next week! But at least the church and hall could be moved out of the way. Id like to have the photo-video done too but we will see =) I think mom is paying for that so WOOHOO!! <3

thanks for making me feel good!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I am having the same problem also. I am so nervous that I have too much on my plate. I am taking 16 credits , I work , and I have a 2 year old son. I am hoping I can get through it all. Good luck to you and wish me luck :) LOL

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN. I'M ALSO GOING TO SCHOOL FOR MY MASTERS, WORKING FULL TIME, DOING AN INTERNSHIP, AND PLANNING A WEDDING. THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I COULD GIVE IS BE GOOD TO YOURSELF. I HAVE LEARNED THAT I NEED TO BUDGET MY TIME. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO ALL YOUR SCHOOL STUFF BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT WHY YOU ARE A NEWLYWED. DON'T GET STRESSED ABOUT THE LITTLE THINGS. AND MAKE SURE TO USE YOUR FH FOR SUPPORT. GOOD LUCK!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I am juggling work, part-time MBA, and wedding planning.

When it's crunch time for school (papers, midterms, finals), I study. I book vendor appointments when I am at work. I don't know how it works but it seems to be working.

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I know exactly how you feel...I'm a full-time student..(Junior year standing) working on my Bachelor's...trying to find a job AND plan the wedding at the same time...its really hard but it can be done! Of course your studies come first before ANYTHING else...INCLUDING wedding planning...especially since you're in your senior year..but the best advice i can give is..use the week to study (Mon-Thurs) and take care of school stuff and use the weekends (Fri-Sun) to take care of wedding things

If you ever need to talk, vent about school and wedding stuff don't hesitate to FM me!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

looks like you have the major thing set - the hall and church!! i got engaged about 5 weeks ago and i was SCRAMBLING to get everything done in that time b/c law schol started for me yesterday. fh thought i was obsessed, but he realized that once ls started again i would have no time for any planning.

i still have to book the photog, video, flowers, limo. i already met and chose the photog, so that helps. but it's def tough to do vendors when they are usu unavailable on weekends, for obvious reasons, and my classes are at night.

looks like you def have time, which is great!! just do a little bit at a time. school is first, so try not to make yourself crazy. and ASK FOR HELP if there are people around you whom you can trust!!!!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I am taking 15 credits this semester too (I'm also a senior) Just relax. I have been booking everything on weekends, but giving myself extra time, like one day a week, to kick back and do nothing.. maybe a little studying. It helped out a lot last semester.

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I'm in school as well! I started my masters in January of 06 - total career change and at times, it's so stressful, because I think of what I could be doing with my original BS and the money I could be making, but then I realize I wouldn't be happy! Sometimes we have to pull through things in order to get what we want in life. Try to get your school work done and try not to worry about all of the planning-good thing you are getting married in November of 08, don't stress yourself.

i got engaged in November 2005 and I realized that with school, I had to put off my wedding for another year. We had originally thought of December of 06 and I am so happy we decided to wait. We can save more money and relax when it comes to booking vendors. I know you can do both- just have faith in yourself!

Also, a great tip to saving money - try to save $25 each a week until your wedding. It really works!!

Good Luck- and remember, we're here for you!

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I'm in the exact same boat!

I'm also going into my senior year (full time, 18 credits), I work 30something hours a week, and trying to find FH a job has become a p/t job for me (he's an unemployed elem teacher).... Its hard, and its very easy to get distracted, but you just have to be really careful about your priorities.

We needed a long engagement because FH is 1/2way through a masters too, so money isn't exactly flowing around here.

Don't worry - It'll all work out! `

Re: For all you students who are getting married

I'm in a similar situation.. I'm going into my last year of my master's, taking 15 credits worth of classes plus an externship (like an internship, but for Speech Pathology we do an internship in our school's clinic... and then an externship at anothe site)...

I'm trying to do as much as I can before school starts on Aug 30th, and then I figure i'll just do a few things here and there... and finish up more over december break.

i just take it one day a time... stress doesn't help get things done

Re: For all you students who are getting married

we should make this our official thread...when its right around midterms and we're all just about ready to pull our hair out, we can vent on here and reinstate the sanity that we had over the summer!
